This question has probably been asked before but, Do you need an engineers certificate in Victoria for a 1.6ltr carburetor powered Sierra?

If so does anyone know any lenient engineers in the Dandenong or Mornington area?

Nope just take new engine number in, same as EFI.

Yes. It's not a replacement or factory available engine in that model.

You do not need an engineers certificate. I have done 2 cars, you just take in new engine number and a receipt for the motor.

If the engine mounts haven't been modified, increase in engine size not significant, and motor from same manufacturer, you do not need an engineers certificate.

Sorry, that is just wrong. It's a conversion.

I am also aware of car that had a G16a fitted and registered. It was done by stealth.

You can ring Vicroads and tell them whatever you like. Try and get a rwc on that car to transfer ownership and you'll have to do the same fancy footwork as the guys that I know that did it.

The rules are clear. A g16 is more than 10% more powerful than the stock engine, the engine mounts do have to be moved, and it wasn't an engine offered in that model.

No probs, my engine mounts weren't modified, engine was put in before roadworthy was taken to Vicroads, and presto done legit and it's a G16B.

Maybe I was just lucky both times. Kewl.

Your story paints a picture that is so far from legit its not funny. A RWC won't stop a Vic roads or police officer from labeling your vehicle defective. You have not gone through the appropriate channels to get your motor approved.

Mate you don't need a lenient engineer. That motor is well within the allowable power/ cubic increase limits. just call Vic roads and ask them who the closest approved engineer is to you.

The reason i say lenient is because of the rest of the car, 2" body lift 2" extended spring hangers and 2" suspension lift kinda makes it a bit dodgy

A 2" suspension lift and 2" BL are fine with an engineer, so long as the BL has been well executed and the blocks are steel or alloy.

Take out the extended spring hangers. You don't need them anyway and it's very unlikely the engineer will pass them.
