Hi Guys,

Ive got an 88 WT Sierra with standard suspension, including the factory fitted sag, and after a "moment" on a wet roundabout this morning, i think it is time to get a new set of tyres for the poor thing. I havent wheeled it much yet but once i have it reliable (new springs & shocks, rebuild gearbox, new carby, fix rust, etc) i plan to take it onto sand and do the powerlines tracks, etc.

Which tyres do you guys most recommend for 95% road use at the moment, transitioning to 60% road, 30% bush, 10% sand within the next 6 months? What size should i be looking at for stock wheels at stock height?

Check the date code on your original tyres. they might be very old and therefore hard, adding to the problem.

Thanks for the link wants33s, but im in WA so for simplicity (urgency with the current rains?) im keen to get something closer to home.

Gwagensteve, yeah, the back ones will be pretty old - at least 4 or 5 years. The fronts are pretty new looking, but are cheap light truck tyres put on just before i got it 2 years ago, so would be keen to replace all 4 and keep the current fronts as spares.

So im chasing 215/70R15 all terrains. Any particular brand/model recommended or just the best value (price:quality ratio) i can find?

Be aware that running a larger tyre than standard may or may not be legal in your state and may void your insurance.

mate, get some BFG KM2 or Kumho KL71 in a 215/75r15 - they'll go straight onto the standard rims with no lift required. Both my km2s and kl71s grip the road better than less aggressive tyres i've run previously... granted mine are 31s, but still.

i daily drive mine on both tyres and they are wearing very well and grip great offroad.

my mate has KL71 on his jimny in 215/75r15 and does a LOT of beach work, and he reckons theyre far better than at previous ATs too.
