I have a 1991 1.6lt EFI vitara, 4spd automatic... It wont go into 1st gear, or overdrive, and even after we have had 1st for a while we are constantly loosing it while 4wdriving..Please Help Its Driving me mad!!

Buy a Serria and put the motor in it and bolt the 5 speed up to it. Way better car then those vitara hairdresser cars. Lol.

Have you checked the fluid levels? Does it smell burnt?

As stated, check fluid level first. Next step then should probably be a fluid and filter change.

Talking to you today, that's the 2nd time you've run it out of fluid, auto's don't like that & need to be "run through" to get the fluid level correct.....
Or you could just ban your BF from driving it...

its not the fluids.. we have played with the fluid levels and its had brand new fluids put in it twice in last 2months.. we have had the transmission flushes... worked a little smoother for a bit then went back to shit..

Have you taken the pan off? The pick-up may be full of shit? I haven't had a pan off one of these ones before but the pick-up is usually also a changeable filter

Run the trouble codes for the auto? 2-3 only is "limp home" IIRC.
