Hi All,

Just wanted to know that, since I need to replace my diff centre, what parts of it need to be working for me to be able to just stick a auto lokka in it?

From my understanding all that needs to be ok is the planetary gears is that right? also do you know which model I need for my Vit?

Also I was going to give it a go and install it myself, is it difficult for someone with no diff experience?

Without trying to sound like a dickhead...... this has been discussed before. My suggestion would be to give it to a diff shop and get them to do it.

That's cool, I was being a bit lazy

Diff shop wanted $950 to replace my standard one, i figured that I would look down this avenue.

Personally I'd pay to have it set up by a diff shop mate, especially if its a daily driver or used on road often. I did my rear one myself making sure to mark everything so it went back together exactly the same with the same tolerances etc.

While it was okay, I later had it re-done properly by a diff shop when I changed R&Ps. Worked much, much better when set up by the diff shop. Less bucking/jumping around, less noise, much more pleasant to drive on the blacktop.

Get a cheap 5.12 centre. Order a diff rebuild kit and lockright from low range or similar. Get it set up properly, and you know its going to be good for many years to come.

To give you an idea of price, I paid ~$700 here in Perth to have both diffs completely rebuilt/assembled. That's with me supplying the centres, the lockers and the rebuild kits so all they had to do was put it together.

Yeah it's not my daily I've just got it to wheel, drag my bike around and the odd camping trip. Didn't want to have to spend to much on it, looks like I might have to and just get it done right and be done with it.

Totally agree with ninjamoses. You can do a backyard job that is acceptable but may only last 6-12 months. Or you can just get it done once and right and have trouble-free motoring.

get them to install it into your centre. should only be about $100. then install the centre back in the car yourself. i base this price off when i got a full spool put in a centre so shud be about the same

Alright, lets say I was going to get a lockright and get it installed do we have someone on this forum that can supply them? I'd rather my money go to them than someone else. Also would you know which part number I need? Would it be either of these 2? and should I go the second one which has couplers? 1512 or 1532

There is a little bit more involved to set up a mechanical locker than a spool. I think you might safely budget double that unfortunately

Complete rear vitara 3rds are pretty cheap from a wreckers, and already setup..

Haha, I think I'm pretty good driving unlocked, I've often gone places I shouldn't and made it back, I just figure since I'm fixing the diff I may aswell give myself a little boost.

Now i'm not saying I don't like track building but sometimes it'd be nice not to have to just to get home.

Yeah, I just can't manage to find one at the moment, so I'm just exploring my other option.

Im at the install stage for my locker atm. Does anyone know of a good diff place in the Newcastle area that would have experience setting up an auto locker?
