G'day AZers

After a days 4wding and then driving home the car sat in the driveway for two hours or so and then when i went to get dinner she wont start
The car will turn over but wont fire up, i've pulled a spark plug lead off and she has spark
Before when i turned the key to ignition i could hear the fuel pump (i think it was the fuel pump or it was something down near the fuel tank) prime up and then after two seconds the ignition would go click, but now i just hear the click after two sec without the priming noise

Does this sound like it could be a fuel pump or should i be looking else where?

Fuel pump indeed. It should run briefly with key to ON.

Now I haven't done any work on EFI Vits so I'll leave it to the others to help you out.

hey mate, i would be pretty set on the fuel pump. i had mine fail a few months back. if you pull one of the small lines of the front of the inlet manifold off and squirt some fuel in there, if it runs rough then its the pump.

have been told that the pumps are only good for 200,000ks, mine died almost dead on 200.000ks. pump is in the tank, so tank has to come out. i paid $300 to get mine done. not to expensive.

Sometimes its only a corroded connection on the top of the tank or the connector behind the rear light cluster that causes the problem.

checked fuses? the fuel pump should buzz for about 2seconds to prime the system, then switch off. did you see if there was any fuel at the engine bay?

undo the big bung on the front of the fuel rail and turn the key on and a heap of fuel should come out, if not pump isnt working
next step would be give the bottom of the tank a boot to see if that wakes it up

next get at the plug for the pump on top of the tank and see if there is power there when you crank it over

I would say its the pump if you could hear it cause they shouldnt really be that loud, unless you have real good hearing, but it pays to check its nothing else before you replace it and find it still doesnt work

I had this a few weeks ago.

It turned out to be a loose battery clamp

It was tight, but there was not enough contact area for it to start, I cleaned the terminals and battery posts, all goodski's.

Yep fuel comes out of there, now what?

check the earth bunched in with the injector wiring
squirt some fuel in the manifold and see if she fires up
when u cracked the nut on the fuel rail there should be a heap of pressure and fuel should spray out everywhere.

Nah she didn't do that, she just done a bit of a fast dribble even when turning her over
