is it possible to put GV 4.8 ring and pinion gears into a sierra diff?
i need more reduction and can get 1 gv front diff, will i have trouble finding another gv diff?
assuming that it is front diff that i need.

Shep your looking for a GV that runs an Auto.
Can't answer your question but that might help a little in tracking one down if you ask wreckers.
Suzifour wreckers in Sydney (I think from memory) used to look after me well when I was hunting GV parts.

yeah they fit, dunno if you need the cross pin retaining band or not that they use on 5.12
probably easier to find as the earlier GV's had them as well as a few auto 1.6

i doubt you will find any hard and fast answers.
suzuki did some screw stuff with diff gearing in all those things.
4.8s came out in the 2.0 4 and 6 cyl vitaras
and some of the GVs but not sure which ones
PS if you find extras hook me up, im looking for a pair as well

Never heard that one before.... I've only ever seen 4.6 or 5.12 in vitaras.

2.0 4cly manual and V6 auto GV's had 4.8's as did the X90.

pm sent........
Then I realised you want to put an airlocker into it.......it won't fit. The internal dia of the 4.8 GV ring gear is too small for an airlocker which is why I convert them to early 5.1 or 4.6 diffs.

GV 4.3 and 4.8 carriers are the same. I know as i have just swapped the R&P over a fortnight ago.
I was under the impression that a RD79 for a Vitara was what was required.... Ill do more research before i buy one.

5.125 diffs are not off the cards. I have a GV rear on my bench but ill need a decent Vit front to do the conversion.......oh wait i do have a set i loaned to a mate i can ask back. HMMMMMMtime to do some summs on ratios

Oh-oh, I don't like where this thread is going
I plan on swapping some 4.3 R&P's into my air-locked Sierra diffs.
Will they fit? Or am I going to have to get shit machined???

1.3, 33" tyres, 3.7 diffs, early sierra 5 speed and 6.5 trans gears at the moment but i am about to go
1.6, 4 speed auto, 6.5s with 33" tyres and i want it to be doing around 3800rpm @100.
i am fishing a series of comps next year and want to use the sierra as my tow car so i can
out flash the other competitors.

The 4.8 has the same ID as 5.12's it is only the 4.3 rear gear sets that have a different carrier and third member. This what I found when i swapped from 4.3 to 4.8 gears in my GV.

No. I had a 2000 Auto GV (running std 4.875 diffs)
After smashing the front diff (ally) I replaced the front diff with Vitara (4.875 diff and got a steel housing while I was at it) to allow me to run a air locker.
Drove it for about 18 months like that, then, I fitted a rear 4.875 Vitara diff so I could fit a air locker. So the GV was then twin air locked.
