The 4.8 has the same ID as 5.12's it is only the 4.3 rear gear sets that have a different carrier and third member. This what I found when i swapped from 4.3 to 4.8 gears in my GV.

That sounds about right. I do remember the 4.3 rear diff being different now. Im nowhere near home ATM so i cant check whats in the garage.

So is it a RD79 thats used in the rear????

YEah, joe sold me one about 12 months ago. and i piked up another one about 3 months back. both are vitara ones, not GV

The LWB Vits and the early G's have the same diffs. Ratios vary but they can be swapped over. Late model may be the same also but im not 100% sure.
