Hi all

Im heading out to look at a swb soft top vitara for sale to fix up for the missus and I have been told over the phone the windscreen, soft top and seats need replacing.

I have found by accident a lwb vitara that is being wrecked with the seats and the windscreen

Would these be a straight swap, the windscreen is the bit I'm hoping fits straight up.

The windscreen yes, The seats no, LWB don't have soft tops so no to that one too.

I'm 95% sure almost everything else mechanical underneath are the same, trailing arms, CV's, diffs etc obviously not the driveshafts, bumpers and doors.

BTW. early grand vitara front door windows are the same as LWB Vit, I could be wrong but I think the windscreen is too.

How can you swap a windscreen from a wrecked car? It's bonded in, you'll have to break it to get it out??

Unless your really good at removing windscreens yes they can be removed and after ALOT of cleaning it could be reused but you'd be much better to call up a local windscreen fitter and buy a new one, you'd be looking at about $200-250. Don't bother calling that O'brien place, if you do make sure your sitting down..

But to answer the question yes a SWB will fit a LWB.

99.99% sure they are glued in with mastic. I think it would be almost impossible to get out without breaking.

Interestingly, coil sierra screens are bonded AFAIK. Screen is the same size but it doesn't sit in rubbers anymore.

I found it pretty easy to remove a glued in coily screen with a long stanley knife. Didn't damage anything in the process either 'cause I was careful.

Best way to 'unglue' the silastic is with very fine guitar string...poke it thru and attach a couple a handles either side and start sawing....be very patient or end up doing what I did....cracked the screen on my landcruiser at the very last corner...grrrrr
