One of the softest parts of the Jimnys are the sills.

Mine were already slighty damaged and the bottom plastics were missing, So i decided to make some sliders up to neaten everything up nice and strong.

Bottom of flares trimmed to suit. My middle plastic trims were missing.
Image
Image
There is some flare bracket here to grind off
Image
Basic Jimny body mount
Image
Underneath the rubber there is a recess that is good enough to locate things.
Image
Some pipe bigger than the body rubbers, Long enough to stick at least 70mm below the seam, Can always trim later. With some plates welded ontop with hole pefect size to locate around the raised body mount section.(Try not to use shit GAL pipe. Grind the coating off first if you have to. I did, but obviously wasnt enough, so welds are abit messy.)
Image
Mounted. We now have a base to work the shape of the sliders off.
Image
Image
Image
Mounting some side rails. I used 50x3mm RHS The length of the body, NOT the flares. If you ever want bigger tyres, There is plenty of steering/flexing room. Later on you can plate off the ends to keep mud and crap out of them.
Image
Image
Image
Top rail, You can angle mount it anyway you like, For more of a step, lay it down more, or a purpose built slider raise it up. I used 50mm OD black pipe, 50mm x Tight 90' Steam pipe bends welded on the ends, and some mid support sections, Notched out to suit the RHS corner
Image
Image
Rear view, They dont stick out like dog balls with skinny tyres.
Image
Image
With only the 2 bodymount mounts, The sliders can flex/twist on the squishy rubbers. So a 3rd link/arm is needed to wrap around the chassis box section. Just used 50x3 RHS again, Made a U type clamp to go around the Jimny chassis where the body/floor has a natural curve off the chassis. Enough room for some bolts! This stops the twisting. Pic From of 31zook(thanks)

Sorry dude! I didn't realise. They came up nice. Those mounts also offer some protection to the body mount. I mashed one of those on my Sierra.

Sierra's have shithose bodymounts. I don't like them. Jimnys are flat and much stronger. Using this style gets strength from the body frame, and chassis, All while still keeping each other seperate.

Alot of sliders are mounted from the chassis box only, This puts alot of strain on the sliders, twisting up etc. These bodys mounts stop this as they are further out near the sill.

do you remember what size ID tube that was? then i can get the girly to order some before i get home.

Also, in regards to your 3rd support clamp on the chassis, is that bent 3mm? or did you just weld 3 pieces in a U shape? (im not rly an engineer)

I think it was around 75mm or larger ID. Hole was about 35mm? from memory.

The clamp, i bent it up with 5mm flatbar. Heat and a hammer, And still stuffed it up alittle too big. Thats why you can see a plate on the inside, To fill the gap. Alot of people bend an angle out of flatbar, Then weld on a 2nd piece on the inside to suit.

Dont need vernier. Just measure the OD of the rubbers.

just thought of something, im not a fan of cutting up my beasty. is it necessary to cut that bit off at the back? and can you get away with leaving the placcy bits on there so i dont have to store them elsewhere? yes im lazy.

The flares are trimmed, non reversable. I cut the bottom of the flares off because they were a mess anyway. If your body is neat, Make the bodymount tubes longer so you can mount the sliders lower under the plastics. No need to cut anything off your Jim.

These pics are maximum high without cutting the sill out. The sill welded seam is hammered up also.

My Jim, The lines were at least 15mm off the chassis at the point where i put the clamp.. So the 6mm U'clamp, plus the 5-6mm spacer plate, there was still room.
