IF you want bigger tyres you will be cop bait. Don't listen to people talking shit about using hilux diffs, if you were going to modify your car to that extent you are going to need engineers certificates and blah blah blah.

You could just chuck some coil spacers in and it'd be all good, a bloke on here sells them cheap.

Yeah you can also cut your guards, but I'd try to stay away from that option.

In relation to the disadvantages to a coily, I found it starts with ground clearance, with the diffs dragging on the rut mounds. Solution is to fit bigger tyres, 30s would be a start for me, then the downfall is scrubbing and gearing. A transfer upgrade with gears would be next with lifted coils and a body lift. With all this done you could wheel it better than stock but you won't have a strong cv and axle set up. Without a stronger driveline this is where it ends with easy mods. You could fit a jimny diff up front and add a locker but a lot of fab work is needed.

I've toyed with shocks and springs, highest lift I had was 5 inches using jimny coils up front with a spacer and jimny coils in rear with pajero rear shocks. Had awesome down travel but no up travel in the rear, fronts had no travel at all. It rode ruff and if used anymore I would of cracked mounts and bent the front shocks. I've gone back to my 3inch lift and plan on a body lift next time.
