Went for a drive yesterday, all was fine. Went through a mud hole, turned car off and wouldn't start again. Starter motor clicks loudly, but won't crank. All cables seem connected. Car does roll start and drive fine, but the brake and battery lights stay on. It's a 83 1lt. I am a pretty novice mech at the best of times. Just wondering of what to try/check.

Sounds like a gremlin.
If it were me I would check my battery, clamps and main fuses?
First and the connections on the starter motor and relays.

Now this is my train of thought. It may be correct or incorrect. Just some things to eliminate.
