good point
i'm thinking rustoleum to protect against salty beach sand
or john deere blitz black coz it looks tough
might do a rustoleum undercoat with flat black john deere
amazing what people acheive with $50 paint jobs out there
Need to invest in a decent sander

ROFL this has gotta be a troll.... right? =) surely?!
if its just to take on the beach who cares what colour it is?! the factory paint is likely to last longer and protect the steel underneath it better than a home job too...
if you're REALLY concerned about the colour, go to a signwriter and get them to sticker the shit out of it rally style:
It'll look better, protect the paint more, and most of all its completely removable.

if ya gonna paint the car for taste, or in order to have a cool color no-one has, or u love but its imposible to find ect... cool do it!!..... I love my blue jimny, but if I had shits lots of money Ill paint it bright green, or orange, purple, or some other weird neon color....
but if ya gonna paint the car just becose "the bullies at my beach re gonna call me gay, and laugh at me"...... u re doing it wrong...... believe me, if they re gonna call u "gay" they would do it bcose of the car, no bcose the color of it....... and if u really care bout it just dnt get a jimny and go and buy a hilx, potrool, or cruiser or other "manly men" car

When I read shit like this my first thought is "closet homo"
Same can be said for the guys on the beach. This beach sounds like the local BEAT and "Going fishing" is just what they tell their wives/girlfriends.

Wow, you're copping a flogging on here. I agree with the people who are actually giving you sound advice and not just flaming and calling you a fag. Ghetto painting a late model car is just like burning money. In saying that I matt black'd my sierra about 4-5 years ago. It was a 91 model banger though. The paint was plain old rust kill and lasted about 3 years in the salt and sun of the coast before the paint went chalky. Gloss would probably have lasted longer. Chalky matt black on an old banger sierra still flies though. I'd hate to see it on a late model car. If you do a google search I've since seen a performance forum do a rustoleum matt black job on a 68 camaro (another car I wouldn't ruin personally) that gives you a good run down on it.
Long story short if you want to do it you don't need to ask permission on here. Asking questions about how to make your zook purdy generally leads to a flame-a-thon.
Here's mine about 6 months after paint. I stripped it down and did reasonable prep. Was still a one weekend job though.

i dont see how people say that painting it matte black ruins it.
That little sierra above looks 300x better than brand new ones.
I would pay more for it than a metallic gloss one any day.
If I go to sell 5 years from now, the original paint job will give me what, $10k or something? Matte black will sell for $8k?
I'm not going to sweat losing a couple of grand to spend 5 years driving a white or blue barbie doll mini.
Your little sierra looks sick. If i seen that at a servo, i would think, nice car. if it was shiny i would think, would be nice if it was matte black
And no, i am not a closet fag highschooler, but some dude that wants a matte black jimny coz i think it looks cool and de-gays it a little.
The other benefit of ghetto painting it up front is that i can enjoy it more offroad without worring about scratches and dents and resale value.
I hate seeing $75k land cruisers that have never been offroad.

I actually did it because the swirly stock stickers had permanently imprinted themselves in the original paint.
I meant they ruined the camaro by painting it in rustoleum that has a 3 year limited life span, not the colour itself. Thats the same reason I said yours will devalue. You won't get 8k in 5 years due to the quality of the paint job, not the colour. Home paint jobs fail in that time. If you get it done professionally it should be fine in 5 years. I had a matt blue zx6r Kawasaki (stock colour) and it looked f*ing awesome after 6 years still. Problem is you'll lose the cost of the paint job plus the devaluation. Your looking at throwing away nearly 2K per year based on that. Plus you'd be limiting the number of people willing to buy the car in 5 years also. The majority of your regular joe's out there look for stock paint when purchasing.
I'm not saying don't do it. I don't expect to get anything back for mine when I mod it. I'd recommend you get an old jimny though if you want to paint it. It would cost fuck all to put an old one in to a mechanic to ensure it's reliable.

I really don't mind what you do to your brand new Jim, it's your money. Just bugs me that you're more concerned about what others think. Seems a bit silly but go for it and make sure you post pics of the progress
EDIT: I've heard/read that for a top shelf matt black it's best to spray gloss black and then a matt clear coat over the top.

Yeah that's how the factory matt colours are done on the Kwakas. The matt is in the clear coat. The base colour is just the base colour, it's neither gloss nor matt.

Coz the jimny is probably the best beach car out there due to its lightness.
The gayness of it is secondary to its functionality and cheapness.
Cheap parts, easy to fix and maintain by yourself without expensive tools or mechanics.
It is cheap and quality off road, matte black, big tyres and a bullbar gets rid of its only weakness.
I wouldnt pay $50-$75k for the privelege of driving on the beach just because of a little gayness.

No, a lot of time has passed.
I gave the jimny a miss back then and bought a busa.
Got rid of the busa and am back to jimny.
This thread was supposed to be about paint but all the fags on here have fixated on my homophobia.

Ok princess, how about this for an idea...
Buy any coloured Jimny and get one of those colour wrap jobs done. They cost a bit over a grand, are completely reversible as they don't damage the existing paintwork and with your left over money you could get some streamers and fairy lights to get it ready for this years mardi gras

Blackboard paint, that way you can mark the days tally on the side
Realistically, 5 years of regular beach will see a jimny ruined underneath and the paint going anyway, may as well do something with it straight up
