I guys i am doing a fraser trip with the family in october and i want to start getting ready now.

I am in the process of purchasing a camper trailer with a 23ft tent and all the bells and whistles...at a bargain price might i add.

I wanted to use a battery or 2 i have in the shed from our big Hitachi trucks at work to make an external inclosed battery box with a amp guage to show battery level and a few 12v outlets( cigarette style), so i can run a fridge and some LED camp lights.

To charge it i was thinking of running a lead to the 12V outlet in the rear of the Paj, whilst im a moving or use a battery charger whilst i have access to it.

The batteries i have say they have a CA rating of 1260 or cca of 31s-1125

Is this possible. Obviously being kept in the trailer whilst charging to avoid hydrogen gasses.

You'll have a heap of voltage drop going from the factory cig plug to the battery box due to the just-adequate factory wiring.

I would suggest running 6AWG wiring from the battery back to an Anderson plug at the rear of the Paj and then another lead from this plug to your camper battery. A battery isolator is useful as well.

Also Cig plugs aren't very reliable/secure over the long term.

A dc to dc charger in the camper is the best solution to fully charge the battery
The alternator will never fully charge the standard batt let alone one 10m away
My ctek manual says 25mm2 for that length so that give u a idea

Do you have any evidence, other then from the sales brochure, to back this up?

Thanks very much guys.

With having to lift the car, new tyres, new camper, led camp lighting, and maybe an fridge (if i cant borrow one).

I just don't think a dual battery is gonna be viable with the exhaust and diesel chip i also want.

But the twin 6mm cable seems like a great option.

If constrained by $$$, forgot the dual battery isolator and buy a big battery switch (about $30 i think). You just need to remember to switch it on/off otherwise you might drain your main batt overnight.

Its pretty common knowledge that alternators dont fully charge batteries, as a fully charged battery gasses and loses electrolyte, requiring it to be topped up all the time.

Given that the average Joe public motorist doesnt look under the bonnet a dry battery is worse than one charged to 80%, which is also totally suitable for starting the car, you dont need a lot of capacity for a starter
