So, I currently have two sierra, neither is running
I want to get my first one done up and back on the road before I start messing with my new one that I bought a few weeks ago off another member on this board (95 gti sierra)
The first ones engine was well and truly had it, so I pulled it out considering doing a rebuild. But at the end on the day I kind of couldn't really be bothered.... and of course I don't really want to take the chance of fucking it up not knowing what I am doing. So I've been looking around for a 1.3L engine to put in but haven't found much.

Really tempted to go this route, it is a lot more than I had planned to spend, but at least it will be done.

I've seen a similar set up with high km's go for around $1500 on here not too long ago, is it really worth it for such an engine? I know a lot of time and money goes into the conversion, would just like to get some opinions?

Also, most of the threads I have read involve attaching the g16b to the standard sierra gearbox and transfer (pls correct me if I have that wrong), this one has a vitara gearbox and transfer, what would that mean as far as gearing goes? would it be different?

This might be a very stupid question (I have almost no experience with these efi engines), can I just plug in the computer and wires and go? will the computer need to be tuned or will it already be tuned for the engine (I assume it is the standard ecu)? I would hate to have to muck around with it like I will need to with my GTI

I guess my only other question is what else would I need to complete the conversion? I know some people have said they get overheating issues with the standard sierra radiator others don't. Any other bits I would need to consider? what kind of exhaust do these engines have standard, I guess my brand new set of 1.3L 2" extractors will be no good to me

There is a few threads on here about all of this but to narrow it down you will need.
Ben10 conversion kit.
A old swift thermostat housing.
High pressure fuel hose.
Coily tank
Instrument cluster
Can use the standard radiator just give it a mass flush out.
Thermo fans are good to have.
Your 1.3 sump with the crank angle sensor from the g16b sump.
The ecu and harness with all the sensors.
When I get some time in the day I will link you the file how to do it all file.

Nice work Sambo but the "Ben10" conversion got a laugh out of me. The adapter kit is from BenT. He's a kiwi member of the board, not a cartoon superhero that turns into monsters hehe.

I'm pretty sure all of that will already have been done, as he has already had it running in a sierra and says it is complete.

I guess what I really wanted is to know is what people think is a fair price, especially with an older engine also what will using the vitara gearbox and transfer mean for gearing? will it be any different?

They don't work in a sierra without other mods.

Firstly, the gearbox does not physically fit. You will need to widen the transmission tunnel.

Second, the vitara transfercase is 1:1 highrange ( sierra is 1.2:1), so that is wrong, also it runs slip joints not drive flanges, and lastly it is centre output, not offset, so you are going to get some wickid driveshaft angles/ vibrations.

Having said all this, I do recommend running the vitara 5sp if the tunnel mods are not beyound you. They are stronger than a sierra gearbox, and the gearing is almost the same. You can run a shortened jackshaft into your sierra transfercase.

all of this is 100% accurate, except that sierras high range reduction is 1.409 - a 40% reduction in high range. That's why vitara diff ratios are 40% lower than a sierra.

Not nit picking - just pointing it out for reference.

thanks for the great info guys, really what I needed to know
so if I was to run the bit 5speed with the sierra transfer and 30" wheels what kind of gears would I need? it is all a bit complicated for me
