Hey guys.I was just wondering where abouts you fill oil into your steering box.Where is the plug located.

I think you just unwind the adjustment screw

Take the whole lid off (4 bolts)

However, where did the oil go? What have you done to stop the new oil falling out? What oil are you going to put back in? How much of it?

Steering boxes are not "serviceable" items - it might be possible to pull them apart and replace the seals, but there aren't replacement hard parts available AFAIK, so if the seals failed due to wear in a bush/shaft new seals won't help.

I have refilled boxes with oil in the past but it's only a band aid before you're looking for a replacement.

PS the actual procedure for setting the adjustment screw is a bit complex - it has to be done with the steering shaft (and drag link) off the box and is set by drag on the input shaft. I now we all "suck it and see" but I actually think the required drag on the box is MUCH higher than anyone thinks. I reckon this is a big contributor to death wobbles.

Is it possible to fill the box with something like swivel pin grease?

mines 75% lithium bearing grease and 25% diff oil... works silky smooth and no leaks since i noticed it was dry.

I have only ever filled steering boxes with molybdenum disulphide grease. Costs a bit more but won't leak out of a dodgy oil seal.
