The pins came from Wildkat International.
The 2 big pins are 1.25" and about 6" long and were $13 each. The 2 smaller pins were $5 and $6 each.
I think they are case hardened.
Can't buy the material for that cheap around here.
Thanks man, some guys I know have a jd2 32 with hydronic ram, he's lent me some of it to copy/draw, keen on getting the lot lazer cut and built soon, you've inspired me to pull my finger out.
Hey did you get the die from jd2 in Australia Dural, or import it?

Keep it going, looks good
Kyzer
I purchased the dies local. I asked about freight from the US but the freight cost through their nominated agent was ridiculous.
Do you have the main mounting arm for the model 32? If so, what's the chance of getting a dimension checked?
If you go laser cut parts, I would be still boring the main pivot hole as well as the drive pin ones. It would be OK to do the outside profiles but I don't think the laser will achieve a nice tight fit on the pins.
I also think that the thickness will be a problem with the laser unless you can find quite a large one.

Yeah which dimension are you after?
At present I have the handle and ratchet mechanism that I'll be drawing up today, probably be Thursday or Monday by the time I get back over too his shop too get the rest.
Was thinking that if the lazer carnt cut the 3/4" plate that I'd just laminate 2 pieces of 1/2" plug weld them in a heap of spots, v out between them and weld round the outside, then mill the holes. Would also mean I can cut the hole thing from 1/2" plate.
The main dimension I need is the one from the centre pivot to one of the follower die holes. I estimate it is about 6.5 inches between centres but the holes aren't in line. There should be a few different holes for different dies but I only need this one for now. Will see how it goes and may bore more holes as I purchase more dies.
I don't see why you would have a problem laminating plate. I went for 5/8 plate because the steel place here didn't have 3/4" and I didn't want to pay their ridiculous price for 1".
Boring the holes on a mill will be the go. I made mine the same size as the die and follower then got the pins. The pins measure between .05mm and .1mm undersized so there is a bit of movement there. If I don't get decent bends I will turn up some pins to suit the bored holes.

This is what I've done the drawings for so far, need to get round to picking up the rest, will get those measurments for you too, if you've got CAD ill just send you the dwg file
I can't do any modelling at the moment. I just coughed up the maintenance fee and upgraded to the latest version of the 3d program I use and it has fallen in a heap and won't restart the program.
I am stuck using an old copy of autocad at the moment.
Hey ball! What sort of hydraulic cylinder were you intending to use?
The single acting cylinders that JD2 spec for their machines have a threaded collar so are attached at the seal end of the cylinder body. As far as I can tell that's a bit difficult to do with a "normal" cylinder. I have seen the JD2 style benders made in a frame but oriented vertically rather than horizontally, like in this vid:
That one uses a replacement ram like you get on an engine crane, but I was thinking more along the lines of one of these (16" stroke, 3" bore). Mainly because I have one kicking around at home

If ya know how to work torrent files i can point you in the direction of 2012.
I haven't thought that far ahead with the cylinder. I will make it work manually first then I will hotrod it to add power. I will end up just looking for a cylinder about the same size as the ones JD2 sell. If I can't find one for the right price, I will just make one. I already have a hydraulic power pack but I have no specs on it.
That is a pretty substantial cylinder you have there. The ones recommended for these benders are much smaller in diameter. I am sure you could make it work if you had to.

Just had to hand it out to all my CAD class
I played with autocad 2012 late last year. It was resource hungry on my laptop and was too different to what I was used to so I axed it.
I am using Alibre for my 3D stuff. You can get a personal edition for $220 that has just about the same features as solid works, solid edge or any of the other pricey software packages.
I only got it working again today and it has a very different interface now. It is a lot closer to solid works in appearance. From what I can gather, most of these 3d packages all use the same base, they just add their own features to customise it.

Hey Ball,
From the main die pivot hole too the first follower hole is 4", then it measured 37.5mm from the first follower hole to the 2nd, same for the 2nd to the 3rd hole, then 38.5mm from the 3rd hole to the 4th and same between the 4th and 5th and 6th.
At present I have modeled everything, just need to redraw it in 2d CAD as the laser cutters take dxf or dwg.
here is a dude selling plans for a conversion kit. It looks like he is using a cylinder as big as yours. If you look closely at the pics you can get a good idea how he has mounted the cylinder

It's interesting how he mounted the ram. Those air over hydro things would be slow though, but I guess if you're not bending stuff for a living it wouldn't matter. Having it slow would be good for getting an acurate bend anyway.

Title is false advertising... I was hoping to see ball goin on a bender, and doing a build whilst hammered.
But a nice bending tool is alright, I guess.
fuck i need to get my eyes checked... i read it as balls bLender built, and i thought how awesome it would be and the shit he would try and blend with it
