You lot realise there is more to a chassis crossmember than somewhere to hold the back of the gearbox up dont you? You dont reckon it might play a part in keeping the chassis rails from touching in the event of some decent strain, IE being smacked in the side by a large car like object or rolling down teh side of a hill for 100m or so? Something a bit of plate with a fold in it is going to fail at greatly

This is why ive ditched the idea of remaking the cross member and just making a bolt on slider for the underside.

hahha

bent chassis rails from having an aftermarket crossmember are going to be the least of my worries if i get T boned, that much force i'ld probably be dead anyway. :(

Ive decided to keep costs down not to powder coat them. They are gonna get scratched up anyway so i'll just pressure pack them.

So here is one ive finished. This one is for Bohuler for loaning me his GV for the testing.

To fit you need to drill a M10 hole in the top skin of the crossmember. Then its all just bolt on. Takes 5 minutes to fit.

Comes with all bolts needed to install.

Let me know via PM if you want one.

What size is an M10 hole ?
Might be good if you got some pics as you are fitting it to Bohuler's GV, so we can see where the hole needs to be made, and how its positioned and fitted up... :D

As I only got it finished yesterday afternoon and we have had no power since 4pm I have not had a chance to sort those things out yet. I'll package one up and get postage cost and installation directions tomorrow.

Underground power went kaboom yesterday. Its been 15 hours so far and its not looking like being fixed any time soon......

Installed pics as promised.

skid plate, accessories and tools needed for install

Drill hole in top of crossmember. There is already a hole in the botom skin. You just need to drill up through there. May need to oval top hole slightly for bolt to go through... some bolts may not be welded on perfectly square.

Image

Use sandwich plate and screw on nylock. Only do it up finger tight untill rear clamps are in place.

Image

Yes it looks very close but its just the camera angle. There is 20mm clearance between bolt head and tailshaft.

Image

once in place tighten everything up and you finished.
