Last weekend I camped a stockton beach for a night, on the way home I noticed a clicking noise coming from under the car. It only start when the car is actually moving and sometimes stops when the car is just coasting. I wriggled the drive shafts and cv's to see if and joints were broken but all seems good. Only other thing I can think of is maybe the diffs.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Are you sure it's coming from under the car and not anywhere else?

Could be anything really? Can you explain what it sounds like in a bit more detail?

I had cars making clunking noises and it was the engine mounts flogged out... after driving up stocko and bouncing around it may have finished yours off.....thats a pretty big maybe though?

If there is any movement in your UNI's then, grease em up/replace them. Also look for movement in your slip joints in your tail shaft.

Drain your Gbox, Transfer and diffs, then refill with VMX-80, or the EPX90 I left behind my car

While draining your oil's you can see if there is any chuck of steel, or fillings. You can, with a good torch and eye see the teeth on the diff see if any look damaged, but your probs going to see diff parts come out with oil before you see missing teeth haha.

Also, I think there is a 5speed Vit box and transfer case behind my tool chest. There yours if you want them.

joshy it's a vit.... there will be no grease nipples (unless it's got aftermarket uni joints) or a slip joint (will have a slip yoke on the transfer case end)

does it still make the noise in 2wd?

it could be a dry uni joint or a missing tooth in the diff or wheel bearings.

does the noise match the road speed?

My front diff made a banging noise when it went. I took out 4 teeth, so maybe you only did a couple and its going click click.

(P.s. Wayne murphy in his old zook on the TT2011 dvd just started getting a clicking noise from his diff haha.)
