My jimny aircon blower seems to get weaker and weaker the longer I run it. It doesnt seem to change in sound (does not sound like it's getting slower) but less air comes out. After an hour with AC on there is hardly a breath coming out the vents despite the fan sounding like it's whirring away like normal, even if I turn it flat out, lots of noise, very little air!

Got me stuffed, anyone got any ideas?

temperature wise whats it like!? Might need a regas.. could also be the compressor dying a slow silent death...

It gets cold. AC works fine until the air stops coming out. Could gas or compressor slow the air itself? I thought thst would only stop it getting cold (blow warm air instead of cold)

Evap could be icing up and reducing/preventing airflow past it.
Does water drip out under the car when AC is on? If not the drain could be blocked.

yeah happened to me too up the cape. open the little cover on the bottom of the evaporator (its under the passenger dash) and get all the shit out.
then i put the cover back on, got a weed sprayer filled with water and a little soap, and squirted it in through the side and let it drain out. do that.

no dramas bro. if you dont have a garden sprayer, a garden hose will work. Just dont have any attachments on the end of it and keep the pressure down to "douse" the evaporator rather than smash it with pressure. its hard to get the whole lot but it makes a difference.

just make sure the little cover is back on, unless u enjoy water all over ya floor.... unless your a vinyl warrior like me!

Do ya think this might have something to do with it?

I'm thinking that all that muck starts to get damp. Once damp it causes a total blockage. Either way I want to clean it.

Scales you mentioned removing the cover. I assume you mean the grill and associated mechanism that covers this evaporator. It looks like the flap that selects fresh or recirc modes comes off with it. Do you happen to know if this is correct? I'm gonne spend some more time looking at it to figure it out myself but if you know any tricks I'm all ears (eyes?)

i was just talking about the cover on the bottom, i cleaned mine via the holes you took that photo through. youd obviously get a more thorough job though taking the whole thing off. but yeah i dont know how much a pain in the ass that is.

as for evaporator cleaner...... up to you really. id give water a whirl 1st. its free after all.

I found the cover you mean Scales. A narrow strip you can take off to allow the water you squirt on the evaporator to drain out. It worked a treat mate. There was so much mud. It was caked on, I could not even make any difference with a paintbrush. I squirted water in and removed a lot. It isnt perfect but it must be 10x better than it was. Most of the water drained out the other side of the evap. through under the car like the AC is meant to. The rest accumulated in my rubber floor mat.

Man there was some shit. Now to see how much better the AC works... it's a nice hot day today and all...

no dramas mate. good to hear it worked. the other thing to be aware of when cleaning is obviously the drain pipe. a long bit of twisted up locking wire poked down there will help clean it up. dont want that bugger plugged either.

scales your a champ.
my aircon was always average but ocasinaly slowed down.
pulled that cover off and got half a forest out of there, then I hoses the core! so much more air pressure!
wont have to use high as much now!
