Depends. Some "bogholes" are worse than others.

I'd go with a 6000-9000lb winch so you don't wish you hadn't have gone with the 4000lb winch when its not up to the job.

I'd say 6000lb is the minimum. Part of the problem with winches under 6000lb is they tend to have poor brakes and don't run suitable cable/rope for vehicle recovery - they might be fine for pulling an ATV onto a trailer or something, but I'm not sure I'd leave my car hanging on it.

6K winches are cheap enough now I'd see no reason to buy a 4K winch.

Bog holes can be terribly hard on winches - it's not always clear how hard you are caught up, if a tyre is trapped under a tree root etc.

I've seen the brakes on some cheap 6k winches fail to hold a car on a climb. I can't describe how scary this is when the consequences of brake failure is the car doing a multiple rollover. I'd never given any thought to the quality of a winches brake before I saw that, but it made me very suspicious of cheap winches and low winch ratings.

Ultimately, the winch is there as the last option when all other options are exhausted, and it generally means you're out there by yourself, because if there were other cars/people around it's unlikely you'd need to winch.
As such, winches need to be viewed as safety equipment.

Sure, if all you are ever going to winch out of is a flat bog hole, then maybe a 4K winch, through a snatch block, will do the trick, but if you had the car in a dangerous position, or near the top of a long multiple pull hill, I'm not sure I'd trust a 4K winch.

In any case, 4K is under the limit for the recommended minimum size for a sierra.

A Sierra's GVM is typically 1350kg.
The rule of thumb for winch sizing is GVM X 1.5 so 1350 X 1.5 = 2025kg That's to take into account the car might present more than its GVM worth of drag - if a tyre is trapped under a tree root, the car has suctioned into mud etc.
2025kg converted to lb = 4400lb

Most people would say that if the car was right at the recommended limit, you'd upsize to the next size up (so, 6K) but nobody would ever recommend downsizing to under the GVM X 1.5 figure.

i got a magnum 9k which is pretty badass. only used it a few times but works good. bit slower than its bigger brother warns but i like it.

Tigerz 11 are on offer I think at the moment. Not sure I'd recommend one at the RRP, but on sale it's probably a good deal. They do a 6000lbs. You can buy a block and double up to get effectivly 12000lbs of pulling power from a 6000lbs, but it's a compromise, and you should probably buy more rope if you do that or it'll be too short.

Haven't had a drama with my Tmax 6500lb winch so I would reccomend that.
