I have a bad vibration when I'm above 95kms. Only kicks in after that and get worse as you get faster.

The only reason I put this up was that I also have a rear disconnect, (Sierra one from LROR) and I was wondering if anyone had heard of these unit's giving bad vibrations. At the same time I had my rear shaft shortened 25mm, and wondered if it could be a case of them not re-balancing it and it being out, with this said they have taken a little off of a balance plate (with a grinder by the looks) so I'm just not sure.

I'm wondering if it's a case of the selector gear being help steady by 2 springs and after 95kms it can't hold it central anymore and moves to one side, to throw the balance out again?

Anyway, if anyone had heard of this let me know.

:D

I have had a trail tough disconnect in my car for years. It doesn't vibrate at all. It's been through heaps of mud and I've only had it apart for a clean and grease once. My guess is it isn't the disconnect, assuming yours has been assembled properly? -it should be hard to assemble one "wrong" and it still work. I think dog ring could go in around the other way, but I think it would still work.

The dog ring?

And yeah the selector is one directional, so.... I guess I'll pull the shaft out and go get it balanced again.

I could be talking shit but to test the rear shaft why don't you take it out, put the thing in 4wd and go for a spin (as a front wheel drive) and you will be testing everything but the rear shaft, vibration gone, go get the rear shaft re-balanced?

Hmm, as the vibration only occurs above 95km/h I'm not sure that's a great idea. I'm sure the front end/front shaft might well be inducing their own vibrations at 95k on tarmac.

Mine's so bad I can't even do 40k with the front shaft turning :p

It's something to try though, otherwise he could just take the rear out and run it in 2wd to check the disconnect's output isn't doing it. I just thought this way it would test the rear diff too.

Nope. I had it all running without the disconnect and shortened tail shaft, and I doubt 25mm over 600 of shaft would effect the angle too much.

Did you get it balanced after you shortened it 25mm?
