Hey fellas.

So I have just swapped my k corolla motor for a 1ltr and am having some trouble with the wiring.

The k motor had an electronic dizzy and ran fine and the 1ltr is a maruti and has an electronic dizzy so I thought it would be fine but I have no spark.

With a test light I found that there was power on both sides of the coil which seems wrong but no power at the distributor wires which run through a little box (condensor maybe).

Any suggestions on what to check?

Cheers fellas.

Maruti had a black wire (I think ) to pos terminal on coil and it was also connected to the striped wire from the dzzy.
It supplies power to the igniter. The other dizzy wire connects to the other coil terminal.
I'm not sure but I think this cuirct should have some fuse/resistence protection.

New old thread question. I'm having a similar problem. I have an electronic distributor to use for my engine upgrade lj80 to f10a but I can't remember what model sierra I got it from. It has a red and black long wires coming from the dizzy as well as a striped black/yellow short wire. Can anyone tell me if it is the same as yours so I can buy the right coil? Thanks

Hey mate,

Mine only has a black wire with white stripe that goes to positive side of the coil and a brown wire which goes to the negative, the Maruti dizzy has all the electronic ignition stuff inside the distributor cap.

Some cars run an external igniter which might be why yours has 4 wires but I don't really know.

For the electronic dizzy you would need a 1.3 coil. I don't know if the LJ80's had a ballast resistor in the wiring but you will need to take that out if they have one.

Hey thanks. What I meant was 3 wires. One red and one black which come out of the dizzy together, and one striped short black/yellow which looks like a ground for sure. I think I somehow got my hands on a 1.3 dizzy by the sounds but still need to confirm that. Thanks for the tip about the ballast. Does your maruti still use ballast?
