hey all i have a pipe bender on loan from a mate....im gunna make up a simple rear bar today....

BUT i like the look of these...

Arb bar work is shit house
It's all weak and bends first time u use it
U want at least 3 legs back to the chassis
-I seen them bolted to the body mounts and a u clamp in the middle
-3 pipes welded to fish plates then welded to chassis( did this to my coily wouldn't do it again)
-3 bits of c Chanel with 4 nuts welded on the back then welded to chassis
Legs have a plate welded on end that bolts to the c chanel( did this on a patrol worked really good
Make sure u use a strong enough pipe or it will just bend
I had 25 nb on my coily and it bent

i got 32mm pipe here....i think its about 2 or 3mm think....is that ok?

i bent the arb bar on my patrol easy as!

i just like the look of these sliders....

my sills are al ready pretty hammered! would only be for looks....

ya reckon if i got some sheet steel bent like an L with the bottom bein smaller to go just under the sill....then i weld my pipe work to that...then have some some steel on the other side to sill to sorta sandwitch it together it would be strong enough to stand on? to use as like a side step?

They are 75x50x 5 angle
A bit heavy but haven't bent and cop a absolute flogging
My mount aren't that strong but they have held up fine

How do they go only being bolted to the body
Have they taken any big landings on a rock
Are they strong enough to hold the entire weight of the car on
I'm surprised how strong mine are with only the 8pm flat bar joining the legs to the angle

Mate these are serious kit not just for looks, heaps of design work in these to make them strong you will not get better, if I had a Sierra they would be on it, I reckon they are as good as you will get as far as being totally functional and yet looking awesome.

got_bar_work: Chassis mounted sliders are only as strong as the cross sectional area of chassis they are held captive by. And sierras don't have the biggest/ strongest chassis around either. Given the distance that the point of impact usually is from the chassis, the 'outrigger' style mounts that are necessary on chassis mounted slider create a rather large lever.

Body mounted sliders ( not mounted correctly) can create as much damage as the rock you are trying to protect the sills from. They key is to look at how the force will be distributed in a heavy upward impact.

Also, I'm not a fan of mounting to the chassis AND the body, like some people do. Its poor practice, and doesn't allow for body/ chassis deflection, and could lead to premature cracking of the body/ chassis.

I have no problem with the sliders they look great it was more the strength of the Sierra body I was worried about
Ive read alot of things a out sierra cracking body mounts
So I was wandering if u took a big drop onto the slider would the weight of the chassis that Is hanging off the body studs cause them to tear out

IMO there is no piont boatsiding if you are going to run a slider aswell.

just boatside with 5mm plate, gussets behind it, and enjoy the extra clearance

The shape of a jimny sill is infinately more complicated. Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be a MASSIVE undertaking!

...... well something to think about. I like the idea of making the sills them selves the sliders rather than attaching something to the chassis.
