Is it possible to reduce the delay of the 4WD/L engaging, preferably to nil?
I tried to install an LED in the cab but it just does not work. I believe this is due to the delayed turn off, which I assume would be controlled by the ECU. I would guess that it could be rectified with a shunt resistor but that would void part of my reason for installing it. I put the LED unit in my work vehicle and the difference is like night and day.

Ummmm... There's a delay because it's not locked in yet? An even still the delay is only half a second... Why is that an issue?

Its a press and hold of 4 seconds, so that it can't accidentally be selected.

Whats silly about it? I still want to know, and all of the discussion so far does not answer the query.

Do some research, find out what Suzuki say the controller wants to see, got me stuffed how you think a resistor is going to help anyone
somebody already said they dont need to hold on theirs but you seem to still have selective reading
Whats the LED for ? when is it sposed to com on? whats activating it? whats holding button got to do with a LED?

I've never figured out if I'm operating the switches correctly, it sounds different from a lot of the descriptions above. Mine goes into 4WD High with a good solid press of the button, approximately 1 second. It only goes into 4WD Low when I actually select 1st gear and hold the clutch down and then press the button. It won't select while gearbox is in neutral. This is a 2008 Jimny.
I think they have a mind of there own, but it is reliable. It works every time if I do it that way.

royce wrote: Do some research, find out what Suzuki say the controller wants to see, got me stuffed how you think a resistor is going to help anyone Have googled, before I posted here but have found very few references to it online. Just thought someone on here may have tried to achieve the same thing. royce wrote: somebody already said they dont need to hold on theirs but you seem to still have selective reading I did also selectively read the part of the Owner's Manual that states... joel wrote: the jimny drivers manual states to put the vehicle in 4wdh from 2wd, push and hold the button for for seconds at any speed under 100kmh. 4wdl is stop the car place the gbox in nuetral foot on the brake and hold 4wdl button for 4 SECONDS. cant see how 4 seconds is too long to wait. When you're in a convoy and going from track to road, its useful to do a quick change from low to high so you're not holding up the vehicles behind. royce wrote: Whats the LED for ? when is it sposed to com on? whats activating it? whats holding button got to do with a LED? Two different questions, made evident by the ';' in the subject, the separate paragraph and the wording used. Benz wrote: and i guess your talking about your interior light? and your trying to fit one of those led replacement globes? not a clue why the led's wont work, is it around the right way? but you properly have tested that. haha sorry not much help am I Yes, tried it both ways. And, as mentioned, my best guess is that its current draw related, in that the ECU wants to see a certain drain and won't operate if its too little, hence a shunt resistor might do the trick. However, part of my reason for installing the LED was to reduce current draw aside from the obvious advantages of much brighter light and trouble free life (less spring force contacts). squibby wrote: I've never figured out if I'm operating the switches correctly, it sounds different from a lot of the descriptions above. I think they have a mind of there own, but it is reliable. It works every time if I do it that way. Agreed. As I don't get it into 4WD as much as I'd like and I am recently getting flashing dash lights and beeps (and I know why this is), I'm also unsure of the correct procedure so it takes me a couple of goes. zukenutter wrote: My legs work so I'm ok with getting out to lock my hubs. 4 seconds never bothered me. I'm not sure what relevance having or not having manual hubs has to my question? To the 'why's?', It doesn't matter to me if you don't agree or see the sense, its something I would like to change and I'm not asking for you to do it to.

you realise that even with a stick transfer you still are meant to come to a complete halt to change from low to high and visa versa. you wont save any time. unless its a convoy of over 100 cars no one will be waiting to long. especially as they will be slowing, stopping, engaging the clutch and shifting to high range as well.

Low range is selectable in any gear or even neutral, but you have to have the clutch in Yeah, I tried it in 2nd on the way to work today! I stand corrected. I also noted same procedure to come out of Low range back into high. There is definately no '4 seconds' on my jimny. A good solid 1 second press for any change, 4wd high or Low. I assume to stop you accidently tipping the switch. Evidently my vacuums and all that are in good working order. It takes a further 1-2 seconds to engage hubs. Lowrange takes about a second. I think this is electrically operated? All in it's pretty good. Takes about the same time as my Latest model Pajero used to take with the 'super-select'. Only think with the pajero is I actually did select highrange locked by accident a couple of times and drove around that way. Jimny is more fail-safe.
