I already have 40mm brush bars from bull bar to first hoop. I may have to modify these though, or make new ones, to clear new arches. Iam hopingthe ones in teh eBay link I posted are suitable, because they are affordable, seem to be flexible and probably can be heated and moulded to the curve of the guard.

I don't think they will be able to heat and mould. The sort of temps required to 'mould' them will also destroy them.

i went back and had a look at your pics
you could just do a new tube from the bull bar to the bottom of the mount in the shape of a wheel arch with a brace pipe to the brush bar. ( front and back ) you could then just use rubber to bridge the gap from the body to the new bar.
This would create a wheel arch that would stand up to the punishment it will get.

In most cases that's all that's needed. I don't think there is - The shells are effectively the same, and if anything, looking at these two photos, it looks like the 1.3 might have the larger guard. Which would make more sense because the wider track of the 1.3 means the tyre can't tuck under the factory body line on compression. I agree that the factory plastic flare sits lower than the wheel arch opening, but that's nothing to do with the shell. Steve.

Yeah, I can't see the Jap model having less material in the guard. I would think if the wheel is narrower, it will most likely also be smaller in diameter, meaning smaller wheel opening, or just more space around the wheel in comparison. So I'm looking for a flare with a plastic/rubber quality that is reasonably flexible and can be moulded or shaped to my guards and painted (if not specifically designed for the Jim). I would prefer the fixings to be onthe inside, or at least unobtrusive unlike the standard Jeep or Defender flares. I need to take a stroll through a couple of wrecker yards. I have done extensive googling but cannot find the image I thought I had seen of the Jimny in the snow with the OEM look-alike flares, so I am thinking it may have been the very first Jimny I posted. I just need to work out where I can get these and get some measurements and make sure they fit around my cage.

On second thoughts, no, I am positive this is not the one I am looking for. Definitely silver flares on a blue Jimny!

I might be missing the point here a bit but here's some pics to show the gain in the arch when the standard 1.3 Jimny (Jimny Wide) flare is removed. I'm running 30s with aftermarket front control arms which have moved the axle forward by close to an inch. The wheel offset is only slightly in the minus and rims are 7". I can see how without the arms and with larger offset rims clearance will become an issue but to say the space in the arch is the same on a narrow track is incorrect. This pic shows roughly how much larger the entire diameter of the arch will increase by when the flare and inner metal flare are removed. This pic shows the driver side with steering turned to the right and the clearance to actual body shell. This pic shows the passenger side with the steering still pointing to the right.

Im with zukenutter, I dnt think at all that the japs jimnys have a smaller wheel arches, most of japs jimnys run 30" tyres and they dnt look they rubbing or close to, as opposed to a 30" tyre in a WT and Bugsta I think I know the pic ur saying, if im not worng its a green jimny with silver flares, same of that blue one, and if I remember right they both where on the same pic once there was a guy on the forum from iceland (greenland, dnt remember, one of those artic countries... sorry if ur reading this for my lack of geography ) and remember someone asking about it and he said its a company over there who does that but the price was really expensive

you will find that not many jimny on he has tried different flares, because theres not many jimny on here that run huge tyres that stick out a mile past the stock flares. most of us run 215, 235, 30 and a few run bigger. stock flares work good enough for most of those tyre sizes. so no need for getting new flares

you should make your own flares out of checkerplate, will match the rest of the car.

Sounds like your saying I shouldn't even ask the question?
I know what the 'standard is'. The discussion above shows that there are in fact people who do run wider or bigger wheels and need an aftermarket flare.

I don't have the skills to mould checkerplate, and I want a resillient material that will bounce back, either ABS or a ruberised plastic.
Aside from the fact I think that would look real tacky.

Casting a wider net found some Jeep CJ7 stock flares might be an option. I'm having a look at some during the week.

there is a guy in the UK running Wrangler arches on his jimny, cant find the picture tho.
pretty much any arch that will attach to a relatively flat surface on another car can be modded to fit the jimny. as long as they are not to long as you have to work within the front and rear guards

Front and rear CJ7 flares? Or just rears? Well I started with just the rears as they are a true circle. But hey, perhaps CJ7 rears for both F&R of Jim. The issues with the Jimny is the curve at the bottom of both front and rear, and not all can be moulded to accomodate this. The extra issue with mine is working around the exo cage. The after market Wrangler flares look very similar to the Landrover aftermarkets, with the recessed fixing holes. I am not fussed on this look but as a last resort. I had a look at some aftermarket Land Rover ones today. I could make them work but the inner corner plastic around the fixing holes had been thinned out in the manufacturing process and would break out with little stress, so I passed on them. $375 a set, His best offer was $340 once I pointed out the defect. I would want to get them for $200 to make it worth my while to have a go at fixing them.

Seller finally put up measurements... Still will be hard to know without actually trying them if they will suit properly.

Wonder if aftermarket Torana A9X flares would fit well........ If I manage to get my Torana out of storage i'll mock it up to see what it looks like. I think the rear flares are 140mm, so just under 6 inches
