Hi guys just thought I would call upon the vast knowledge of the forum. I have a 98 Jimny with no power steering, tough dog damper, cooper at3,s 225x70x15 tyres, a land cruiser bullbar chopped to fit Jimny and the thing is rediculously heavy in the steering? Car parks are a pain in the butt and even sweeping bends will see white knuckle action hanging off the steering? WTF? It's only a 1.3 engine so should nearly be able to bench press that... Not like it has the bulk of a v8 etc..... Is this normal or have I got issues? Power steering setup is looking like the way out?? Please any input before I drop serious coin in the beast!!

front end alignment helps heaps but as the alignment creeps out again it gets heavier.

What Royce said Jimny with out powersteering are heavy. Mine is heavy with 30 and no powersteering. I replaced my kingpin bearings which helped a bit.

Yup got return to centre damper, want to go 31,s but finding it crappy now will only be worse with bigger tyres I would imagine? Just got off the phone to suzi4 at st Mary's and looking like they may get the job of fitting power steering as I am suck of it handling like a pig! Can't believe how heavy te steering is for such a small car!

The return to centre wont be helping. Have you tried a normal damper?

X3, did Jimnys get a damper from the factory or are they like a coily Sierra and don't need one?

IMO get rid of the damper altogether. I'd also be checking the condition of the uni-joints on the steering shaft - the coily ones have been known to freeze up. Also has someone tightened up the adjustment on the steering box?

I'm guessing you have a problem somewhere as my coily on 31"s wasn't too heavy even with an RTC damper fitted. You shouldn't need power steering regardless of tyre size for anything under 31" IMO.
