-changed plugs
- put some carby cleaner in and its still using heaps of juice!!

Pretty normal, people think Sierras should be really good on fuel because they're small and have small engines, not true. 200km from 30l is a tad excessive, but not much, especially if bigger tyres are fitted.

Check your choke is working and clean or replace your air filter.

What size tyres? This will make a huge difference to fuel consumption, and also how your speedo reads. You may be travelling further on your 30L than your ODO is indicating.

Lift increases wind resistance hence higher fuel consumption.
Big tyres ruin gearing and increase fuel consumption.
Jack up one wheel at a time and see if they spin freely.

Good find!
Wire it open until you find a replacement spring.

I have a parts carby listed on Ebay for $25.

What size? Have you corrected your odometer due to the increase in tire size? Have you altered your gearing to cope with the tires?

Buy a secondhand carby and swap the choke bits onto yours...

Odometer correction calculation is simple. It is just (new tire diameter/stock tire diameter) x odometer reading. For example if your tires were 30".

30/26 * 200 = 230 actual km eg

You say yours is a 96 model but is it coil or leaf sprung?
If it is a leafy just buy and fit reduction gears to your transfer.
If it is a coily you'll need to fit a leafy transfer with gears.

A leafy transfer costs anywhere from free to $250 typically. No that wouldn't explain why you can't get into 4L. Maybe the transfer is a little 'tight'.

As for tyres, example if your tyres were 30"

30L in 230km is only 13km/100L. A stock coily uses about 10L/100km and when running well my coily on 31s without gears with a 1.6 would use 12L/100km so 13L/100km isn't too bad depending on how it is driven.

IMO address your lack of gearing if need be and you will see a benefit.

Joshua02, it sounds as if you haven't owned the car very long. IMO also do all the regular maintenance checks. Dead wheel bearings and dragging brake calipers as stated earlier will sap power and cost fuel. Replace all ignition components (leads, dissy cap, rotor), chek timing, change all your oils (including gear oils), run 98 RON fuel etc.

No no no.
A 235/75 is 3 sizes larger than a standard 205/70.

It works out to about 29.5" tall, nowhere near 35".

A set of 4.16 or 4.9 reduction gears will be what you need.

Oh haha thought 35 was a tad big, so where would pick up a new transfer case and gears from ?

do I wire it shut when it is at netural or when it injects fuel into the carby ? Will I use less fuel doing this or more ? And I had a look on the front side of the carby there is like a black boot sensor looks like its not being pushed in would this cause anything bad ?

Ahh okay sounds like im just over reacting, but I will consider getting new gearing, haha no this is my first car im only 17 ive just started diesel fitting so it has nothing to do with carbys, ignition, etc. so im kinda teaching myself as I go along,

Would you have any clue how to adjust the transfer case so it goes into 4L?

Wire or zip clip the choke so the flap stays open.

There are no adjustments possible for your transfer.
Something is seized or worn out.

Try www.lowrangeoffroad.com for gears.
Put a wanted ad on here for a WT transfer with jackshaft and brackets.

Fix the carby first.

No... When the choke flap is closed it creates a high vacuum in the carb and draws more fuel.
Wiring the non-operational choke open may make it a bit hard to warm up in the morning but will radically improve economy.

I should add that wiring the choke should only be a temporary fix.

Given the limited info in the above:
Unless you drive a stock Sierra with a G16B I find that economy improved "quite considerably" with larger tyres fitted hard to believe considering the average Sierra is lucky to get more than 350km to a tank and you claim double that.
Best I've EVER gotten out of a Sierra is 8.5litres per 100km or 470km on 40 litres.That car has a G16B and 30" tyres.

Hmmm I thought the same when running my Jimny to work and back and after buying a pajero on the weekend have found an amazing thing...... Suzuki,s suck for fuel consumption! Absolutely disgusted in how much the tiny 1.3 guzzles!
Typically I get 300kms from a full tank= $50 running 95 ethanol elcheapo crap fuel in the Jimny.... Granted yes I have bigger tyres 225x70x15....yes has a rack and spotties fitted so got a bit more drag and yes I know my speedo is out that's why I rely on my gps for accurate reading averaging between 100-115kmph all country and freeway kms.
Now The big ass LWB heavy as a tank, 3.5 lt v6 98 model pajero with ALL the bells and whistles inc rack, bullbar, wheels, lift etc etc very un aerodynamic traveling same distance, at same times, same roads, same driver, same fuel from same elcheapo servo used 1/4 of a tank which cost $102 to fill from empty as opposed to the $50 of the Jimny. Now honestly that equates to me that the little Jimny struggling to keep up with freeway/country road traffic is using close to if not double the fuel of an engine nearly triple it's size!!!! WTF????

Im on my red p's so i stick to my max limit on highways (90k) which is about 80 on the speedo.
when i had original tyres it was revving about 3250 at 90 now its about 2750.
I filled up in sydney and filled again when i got home took 21 litres.

I think the moral of the story is, people need to realise a modified suzuki 4wd will be worse on fuel consumption.
Most have the aerodynamics of a brick, add bullbar, winch, rack, bigger rubber (which i don't think many know just how much different too stock they weigh) to what was a light weight car kills the economy.
Stil love em, but glad i'm driving a gv now. They aint the best on fuel but atleast i have power
