Hi,

Just wondering what I need to change to make my 1.3L 2000 Jimny turn the 30's I have for it easier. Diffs, gears, ect?

What can I do and where can I obtain the parts? Costs?

Cheers!

So this is just a transfer case swap? Did not think it felt that bad in 4L. Was mainly thinking of daily driving. Gearbox swap? Can I get different diffs put in to suit them better?

Cheers

Yes just a WT sierra transfercase swap, diff gears are available but be cheaper going with the case swap
You also can get transfercase gears for your Jimmy case.

I've been running stock gearing with 30s on my Jim for about two months and it's driveable.
Highway is great, busy township is crap and low range is okay. I'm only doing the case swap to get my low range back

Yeah the clutch does not appreciate slight inclines from stationary.

Is the gear swap in the stock box expensive?

Cheers

Im waiting on my trialjimny gears... Not sure if the vvt are dearer or even if the different %'s have different prices, but my vvt 20% gears were 820 Euros... Which, after the $28 fee for the telegraphic transfer, came to around $1170 AUD.
So in short, yes the transfer swap is cheaper... But I didn't want another stick for the transfer, or have to source the parts. Just personal preference really.

Oops, just saw your rig thread and saw you have 30s... My bad!

That must be a pig to drive without gears.

Yeah no worries. Mine already has a stick ( I prefer it) so the vitara swap is looking the go. Just gotta start the hunt for one from the wreckers. That is ofcourse assuming the kit will work on mine as I see most doing this have a later model?

Yeah mate 30x9.5 federal MTs.

Cheers

Yes ora kit fits all jimnys,

Youll need 89 to 95 model WT case and WT jack shaft and front TailsHaft, also some benT rings and sierra manual locking hubs

WT is for Wide Track... 88.5 onwards Sierra's. Rear drums handbrake.
NT is Narrow Track... 84-88. Transfer mounted handbrake.

Yep, year models. If you plan on installing a Sierra transfer in a pre 2006 model Jimny you'll need to replace its gears with 4.16 ratio to give enough reduction for 30s.

Every thing you need to know about this conversion is in the link I have posted above.
You might find your self waiting for a while for a tc, it's seems the Jimny drivers are taking them all.
You might have to go with the Jimny reduction gears, if you need gearing in a hurry.

Found a 1992 SJ70 transfer case. $300. No front tail shaft or jack shaft though....

Is it still worth getting? Will the other two components be more common?

Cheers

92 is suitable and $300 for a good one is a fair price. Don't get hung up trying to get all the parts from one seller because it probably won't happen.
