i have a 99 jimny and was just wondering if the front diff would fit in the rear. ( my mate thinks it will )

No. Its smaller and high pinion.
The Jimny front is unique and only found in the Jimny.
The Jimny rear 1.3 sierra size, ie more common, But your ratio's are limited to your front diff. 2 Local ratios avaliable. 4.09 and 4.3
