Hey guys, I'm in need of some help working out why my vitals g16b is running dodgy. It's in a Sierra and I brought the conversion already complete from a guy on here. He says he has tried a new computer, 02sensor and something else I have forgotten. It idles but very rough and bogs down when opened up. If anyone has suggestions on what to try it would be greatly appreciated..

If you have fuel spewin out your exhaust / remove your plugs and find which one is fouled / check that cyl with an injector noid light or // as I had to do run a new wire from injector to computer ... They are negative switched and are prone to shorting to earth // = one injector on 100% time // hope that helps .. Other than that check basics like swapping plugs ( might have a dud ) leads , cap etc

do you even know its overfueling? give us some symptoms and we might be able to tell you where to look, ive had every common G16B prob happen to mine and they are all pretty different in the details

With the G16B into a sierra what did you do for the fuel return line?

I've just put in a G13bb into ours and the return line was tiny, l replaced it with the supply line off an old chassis I had.

The small line will put more back pressure on the regulator and the supply pressure to the injectors MAY be too high.

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions, I'm not sure where to start. The only thing that makes me think it's over fuelling is it smells very rich and idles roughly. Also I pulled the plugs out yesterday and they were all pitch black black with a dry sort of carbon build up I'm guessing.. I cleaned them and ran it and checked again and they were the same. I am running the small return line to the tank but it run from the motor into an under bonnet surge tank and then into the return line. I'm not sure if it is normal but if I block the brake booster vacuum it almost stalls and when I unblock it, it'll rev right up and run a bit better. Also Ive found that it runs better without the airflow meter but aupposibly the airflow meter is new..

Have you got the reg vacuum line hooked up to the correct spot?

I don't have a master cylinder or brake booster in it yet so it's not hooked up at all. I've just tried it blocked and unblocked.

I'm talking about the fuel regulator vacuum reference line. That must be connected to manifold vacuum source otherwise it will overfuel on idle and low loads. If you don't have a boosted yet just block that vacuum line to the manifold and any other open lines to the manifold.

Ohhh um I'm not sure mate, I haven't really touched any of that. Is it the two sort of oval shaped plugs on the manifold?

Take a pic of your engine from the top. Easier to see for us what is in the right spot or not

Hey mate, I'm unable to upload pics with my iPhone.. I'm wondering does the votary temp sensor need to be hooked up in order for the engine to run correctly?

Yes the ECU will need a temp sensor otherwise it may go into limp mode and substitute a value in to run rich and safe. Do you have the check light connected and tested for any codes?

mmm... sounds like we need a little more information than its just 'bogs down without load and idles rough'

a few things maybe to check.
-All your vacum lines are correctly connected including like Jr Zook said the reference line to the FPR.
-Perhaps the Gap on your Plugs
-All your injectors are firing (if you hold a long screwdriver on the metal body of each injector your should hear it fire making a ticking noise at regular intervals.
-You have said that it runs better with the Airflow meter disconnected? last time i left mine disconnected (by accident) it threw a check engine light. and tended to run like crap.
-i would also check and see that the intake is free of obstruction (i hope there isn't a rag or something in the intake pipe)
-Have you got the intake pipe connected so the airflow meter is actually reading???


a long list for a vague problem...
