G'day Thought I'd post this one here being a newbie poster to the forum and I was unable to find what I was after with the search function, but my 2008 jimny is due for a service and I'm not 100% on what oils to run, I'm looking at changing all oils including engine gear box(manual) transfer case and diffs, I've flicked through the work shop manual and it tells me what grades to use, but I'm more after brands types (be mineral synthetic semi synthetic) and other experience with certain oils. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply, there's a shell sticker under the bonnet with a Suzuki logo on it too, anyone using shell oils? I've only ever used Mobil castrol and Nulon oils in previous cars, but oils ain't oils...

For Suzuki engines, I currently use Penrite HPR15 in my G13a Sierra, G16a Sierra & G16b Vitara. Also used it in my G16a Vitara. HPR15 was a semi-synthetic but I think it recently changed to became a full-synthetic oil. It is 15W60.
I've used a few different oils over the years and found Penrite to be one of the 'better' oils for oil consumption in my oil thristy Zuks. Over the last 5 or so years I've used Shell Helix 20W-50 mineral oil in the G13a Sierra (no problems and cheap!) and Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 full synthetic (expensive and burned a lot in the G16a Sierra).
As far as gearbox, transfer and diffs, I have always used Castrol. I've used the grades specified by the catalogue. Note the gearbox requires a different grade to the transfer case and diffs (to aid in shifting). Never had a problem with castrol gear oil and nver tried anything else, although I was given 2 bottles of Penrite diff oil when I bought my latest Vitara so I might chuck that in next time.

For the engine I only use Penrite. Have been using Penrite for twenty years and achieved great engine longevity.

"scales" did you get a final answer on which oil grade goes in the gearbox and which in the Diffs (mines Jimny VVT 2006) its hard to read in the manual (has temeratures and not sure if I'm reading the diagram right)... Looks to me like 75 - 90 works for both gearbox and diff oil in hot climates?? in my Jimny, is this true... what is true grades needed for these If I'm wrong
