Has anyone got a swaybar, and mounts if possible, still laying around the back of their shed somewhere ? Bearing in mind they tend to be the first thing removed and binned I would think they would go fairly cheaply, not fazed whether its off a Sierra or Jimny just need something to play around with. PM me with what youve got, cheers

I think you will need something a bit heavier than a sierra front I tried one on the rear but it didn't make a noticeable change to stability. The one I use now is from the front of a 4 door swift and the ends are already drilled to accept bolts and heims

Cheers for checking anyway Joe For those that pmd me, based on what Troopy has said I might leave this for a week or so, and see what I will get stung by the wreckers for one out of a bigger car.

The 80'series fit nice, Coiled troopys/ute are very similar. But depends on your arm setup
They will be very stiff.
I have a Jim front here if wanted. They are solid unlike sierra ones. Or can give you measurements, easier to work out then

I need something around 920mm max. EDIT **** Vit is a spring front end

given the weight etc of your buggy, something like a hilux (leafy model) would probably work wouldnt it? (although i know that the standard hilux front is very limited in its travel). Something else to consider would the the old SWB patrols, im sure most of them ditch theirs like us sierra owners.

VW Beetle torsion bars are about 680mm long. Leyland Marina are supposedly 900mm

I can get a mix and match new and 2nd torsion bar setup for about $170 All from over east though Had thought about going for a heavier vehicle with the main issue being the room I have to play with, I wanted to mount the ends to the lower links which are around 900mm apart.

I did some measuring of my setup for you and the swaybar is 940mm wide and the swaybar mounts on the chassis are 680mm apart. Since you are mounting the links to the lower arms I would go for a heavier bar and then fine tune it by playing around with where it attaches to the lower arms.

Cheers mate, according to google some Commodore and Falcon ones look promising. I rang up a Laser wrecker yesterday and he said they had the Laser I needed but werent sure if the swaybar even came off as they had never sold one or even removed one before, so even though they are never likely to sell it to anyone else and he suggested I come in and remove it myself he still wanted $150 for it I wish we still had pick apart over here.

After several hours googling and ebaying over the last few nights I picked up a rear swaybar out of a BA Falcon. The sizing is pretty good I just hope the tension it has is pretty much spot on because if it goes where I want it to there isnt a lot of room for adjustment.

Turns out Troopy was correct and the Falcon one was too stiff, which was a pity because it made the front flex like mad and would have cornered like a race car. I have a 90's swift front one in at the moment, courtesy of suzukishop, which still allows me to max out the airshocks, I havent tested it to see whether its made a difference to handling as I dont have gas in the shocks yet.
Question to those who know. Is the swaybar out of a GTI any thicker, stiffer then the one of of a standard swift ? They look the same shape so swapping one in wouldnt be hard, but I didnt have any verniers on me to check thickness.

check the weight between the two - the GTI one might be the same shape/size but solid rather than hollow? (just a thought).
