Hi all,

Well after having a good look at my engine it appears the last owners have played around with the automatic choke. Which leads me to believe this is the cause for my high/low revs problem, its revs high (mainly when cold) and revs low/stalls (mainly when hot though not always). After poking around it seems they have zippy tied the choke to always be on and have cut a line which I think is meant for water, though please correct me if wrong.

Here are some pictures anyway to give you an idea what I am talking about.







What I was thinking to solve this is to convert it to a manual choke, so i can easily control the revs. Would this be a good/bad idea and why?

they have ziptied the choke open because either the hot water isnt passing by the wax element in the auto choke , or the wax element is broken , its usually because the water isnt passing by it , theres a t-piece at the base of the carb that the water hoses go to . theres a very tiny hole in this t-piece which usually blocks up. try taking the hoses off and blowing compressed air through the t-piece both ways . then remove the ziptie and see if the choke opens automatically.

hmm, Ive just had a look and think I have found where you are talking about. It would appear that they have taken off that T piece and just run the one hose instead of the the two that should come off it. Its towards the front under the carby yeah?

So what would be my best bet of sorting this out?? And why would it of been done in the first place?

ohh crap never mind , i spotted the problem in your pic now .. one of the pipes on the auto choke is broken ... disregard ...

you need another choke assy..

What will I need to repair this, and where can I get the parts from??

This is why I was thinking of converting it to a manual choke, though not sure if it would help? and also where to get a kit!

I think we may be talking about different things here! Im looking at that hose coming from the back of the carby right near the zippy tie, its defiantly been cut clean.

That would be awesome if you do have what i need to get this sorted

Losfer has spotted the other metal plug on the choke assembly is broken form corrosion.
The cut rubber hose isnt that big of a deal. See where the cut rubber hose runs to on the carby. There should be another male plug beside it, for another hose. but its gone.

You will need a choke wax element assembly. Probably easier to find a 2nd hand carby.
