Hey guys,

Ive got an 06 jimny with a 2" lovells lift (very harsh ride) and 215 a/t tyres. I have began experiencing death wobbles at 80kph, if i rev it hard going passed or slowing down it is ok but as soon as the revs are low at either just under or just over 80 it gets the wobbles.

do i need a castor correction kit for a 2" lift or has anyone got any recommendations. I previously had a tj wrangler with a bigger lift and tyres then i have now and i needed polyurethane bushes for my steering rack to eliminate this. Apart from the springs and shocks it is bog stock in the suspension department.

Any advice would be terrific!

Castor correction for 50mm or higher I'm pretty sure. Look at the link above, it tell you all the things that prevent the wobble.

yes mine is epic wobbles, proper death wobbles at 80kph, not small wobbles. doesnt do it if i keep the revs high, this needs to be done when slowing from 80 and below and also passing 80 while accelerating. went camping on the weekend and did it 3-4 times with a big 4wd box trailer attached. Pure scariness.... I am getting my housemate whos a mechanic to look at it this weekend so I will suggest kingpins, panhard rods and radius arms.... Castor correction kit an option??

I have a 2" lovells lift which is super rough, i need to get some softer springs I think as it feels like im being dragged across bitumen and 215/75/15 a/t tyres.

with 2" lift castor correction should be the first thing you do.
A steering dampener kit usually helps too.

First check tyre pressure. wheel bearing and kingpins. Check if there's any play in your steering box or steering link joints. If Thats all good check your rotors. wheel alignment.

Yep i had the big "half turn of wheel" wobbles too mate, it is fixable.

like i said last page, and in your other thread (best sticking to one btw) just have to go through and check these things off one by one.

its not the "kingpins" that need checking per se', but the turning resistance of the hub with the steering rods disconnected and wheel off. its measured with a spring gauge. If you dont want to measure it, get some shims from either suzuki, or the bigjimny site and just put one in top and bottom and see how it goes. its a BIG difference. The bearings do get worn down with more load so they should be replaced at same time, another easy job.

with the panhard rod, its the bush your checking and any elongation of the hole, easy 5 min check. un bolt, look, re-bolt done!

rad arms, same deal. just a bit harder to unbolt and look. Like I mentioned, i went poly on these, but i have castor corrected arms. no idea what castor corrected bushes would do.

I have taken the spring off my RTC damper (to make it a regular damper) and they maaay help, but im a bit dubious on the effectiveness of them in reference to the wobbles. definatley makes a difference in driveability however.

Angle needs to be same as output from T-case,
in normal suspension position.
(and all the way thru the suspension cycle if possible).
So ya may be able to make a measuring tool,
or use an old school plastic angle measure.
Or use a bubble level guage.
(I use my ex's pool table bubble guage :) )

ok will do, I have read so many threads on here saying 2" is fine without castor correction. Are they adjustable at all or do I need a kit? Ive seen some on ebay, can anyone else recommend where to buy one and what degree kit to buy for a 2" lift? 2.5 degrees?

Jimny has twitchy steering when stock, IMO they should have some positive castor added to the control arms from the factory.
I would say the greatest degree of correction bushes you can find. Sorry I used to have links saved to this sort of stuff but no more.

If you can find some rubber correction bushes it would be better for suspension articulation. IMO Urethane will help to reduce wobble because they are harder.

Can confirm urethane reduces wobble. i proved it on my rig.
(NOT castor corrected urethane however)

our wobble scares me now! cant control the car at all, pretty much gotta stop in the middle of the road, will see suzuki for some shims this week i noticed today one of the shocks starting to leak oil again, pretty sure this is caused from the wobble as they were only replaced 1000kms ago!

if i cant fix it for the missus ill never get my rover back! as they will be both traded on a GV for her

I'll need to be allot more accurate then that on my front diff. In regards to caster and such...

Agreed, when i do a RUF on a sierra, i roll the perches back a little to get some more weight in the front end on the highway. otherwise it gets kinda floaty at 100kms...

I hav'nt read all 7 pages here, but I'll tell you about my experience. I've got a 2003 model Jimny which I bought just over a year ago with 100000km's on the clock. It had a vibration in the steering at 110km/h. A few months later when I fitted 40mm old man emu suspension to it, the shimmy turned into a a pretty bad wobble at around 70km/h. I drove it like this until recently thinking I'd fit a steering dampener and rebuild the front end when I had the time. Being a motor mechanic, I just never got around to it lol. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I had a new set of BFG mud terrains fitted to it and had a wheel alignment done, and hey presto, the death wobbles have disappeared. Thinking about it now, I had the same problem with my 91 Sierra when I bought that too. After turfing the stocky Bridgestones for 31" Mickey T's, it fixed the problem on that as well. Perhaps Zukenutter, you could try swapping the wheels on your 2 Jimny's and see if it fixes the problem or makes it worse

Mine with 31s drove incredibly well
No wobble or anything drop back to 30 inch road tires and it's got the shakes at 60 severe enough u either have to accelerate hard or stop hard to stop it
Everything's tight n it's got a brand new pan hard rod.
No suspension lift or anything

this seems pretty good to me, worth a read to all with wobbles. I have just had a wheel balance and tightened panhard, radius etc as it was all a bit loose. Felt better but got wobbles again, so now ive purchased a polyurethane castor correction kit and a steering damper, will fit them and then look at wheel bearings and king pins...

king pin shims should have been your 1st go-to point.

Thanks for the suggestion but if you read through all 7 pages you'll realise that we're talking about a few variations of the wobble and that I've gone through a number of stages/steps to address each version etc etc .

Particularly read my first post on page one.
