(3200/100)*60 = 1920RPM in the same gear

by my calcs 100 in a vit should be 3300 at 100 in 5th

so with your vitara 1.6 and gearbox. on WT diffs with 3.7 diffs

if you use a 4.9 : 1 transfer your looking at 3298 at 100 in 5th

gearing sorted

thats on a 31 inch tyre

on 29s like you were talking about it makes the road revving a bit too high,

even if you drop down to 4.1 transfer gears its still too high, this is where you find issues

Mine runs 3700 and seems fine at that. I'm sure it could run lower, but I like the gearing off road with 6.4's and 5.12's and a true 35" tyre.

Thanks guys.
I was going through all the ratios last night and could only get 4.16's to keep the range at 100@3200 but if you recon it would be better a bit higher then maybe 4.9's will work.
I've also decided to go 31 for the road and 33 off so if your right Tanshi its time to go shopping for gears and a few other goodies

found this if anybody's interested http://www.grimmjeeper.com/metric_gears.html

I daily a 1.6 on 30's and go on yearly trips upto Cairns and back. I run 4.9's and 3.7 diffs which brings me to around 3.5-3.6krpm at a true 100. Stock sierra gearing and 30's it was pushing 3100 @ 100 in 5th and it required a lot of throttle input to actually make something happen. You will probs find that the vits were geared that way to try and reduce NVH. Peak torque on the g16 is up around 4000RPM. Peak torque is also where the engine is most efficient which I would consider being a daily that will be used to cruise @ 100-110KPH

Using the grimmjeeper I got 100k @ 3500
using the lepayne I got 100 k @ 3400
Using .86 (vit gearbox) 1.634 (4.9 transfer gears in hi) 3.7 (WT diffs) and 31 tires
To me these fig are a bit hi but from what your saying would be better anyway
