just do it properly :D please, not that im digging at what you have done as said before

my dad nearlly lost his leg and is very lucky to be how he is today, limping,in pretty bad pain and in severe need or a reco due to being a innocent bistander in a shitty recovery gone wrong. standing off to the side out of the way he was struck by a bar that peeled off a mq patrol towing a 60 series out of a bog hole. It had a proper rated tow hook, mounted and welded like shit and as a result, the car screwed around sideways, tore the bar off and hit my dad at full speed from the strap sling shotting it. if he didnt jump like he did he may be dead. it snapped his leg clean in half and left him laying in the mud, the muscle in his leg got ripped out due to sever infection, the bone never mended back together and he walks with a titanium rod in his leg

i love a day out with recoveries and winching more than driving itself, but you gotta be careful

A lot of lifting gear has a loading factor of 6. So even thought it says 1 ton in fact it can lift 6 ton. Heard there was talk of removing the load factor of lifting gear and stating it true capabiltys, leaving the factoring to be set by the user.

Whilst this is true, A lifting load is very different to a dynamic load. Most obtects lifted with strops, slings, chains, eyes etc are done so at near stationary speeds, so there is no shock loading of gear.

Spot on, the shock load on a point something small like a towing point is crazy and youd hope it would be properly supported otherwise its going straight through what ever its mounted too.

Unless you over compensate to the shit, i wouldnt be using rated lifting gear. True it has a safety factor, but like Fatzook said unless you know exactly what the shock is doing to something dont trust it
