help please!
My little brothers gone to the river for the weekend. The guys were about to take the zook out but can't get the key to turn..
From what my brother's told me they've sprayed a heap of wd40 down the barrel, turned the steering wheel everyway possible (while trying to turn the key too) but nothing is getting the steering lock off.
They got it to turn over using just the wires but thats no use when the wheels full lock left!
Does anyone have any idea what they can try? At the moment i'm just trying to get them to not smash the sh*t out of the barrel with a screwdriver and hammer!!

pull the ignition barrel off.just need a set of vice grips onto the round head bolts

does the key come out? my sierra did the same thing last year, i started a thread and did what was suggested and it worked.

cant remember what i did but will try and find the thread for ya.

oh and removing the ignition barrel wont undo the steering lock

If the key comes out tell him to look down the length of the key, it may be slightly twisted.

One of my sierras had a key that used to twist around its axis when locking the fuel cap, it would fit into the ignition fine, but wouldn't rotate. The easiest way to straighten it was in the glovebox lock.

thanks shep, i'll send him through the thread. Had a quick read before i posted this and he had tried all but removing the barrel, which someone suggested there too! Not sure what tools they have at the shack.
I'll get him to check his key too Matthew. Thanks!

Probably should have let everyone know what happened! Tried everything that was suggested and nothing worked. Key was straight so ruled that out.
The guys ended up calling the RAA.
This is the text i got about how the RAA guy fixed it:
he lowered the steering rack. Chiseled out the bolts holding the ignition barrel in and removed the barrel to disengage the steering lock. Removed the big igntion wiring backplate off the ignition barrel and then put the key in the back plate and started it from there.
That's word for word so not sure how helpful that would be to anyone in the future! He's bought a new barrel since and hasn't had a problem
