i want to put this

i am fine with bolting the motor and auto box in however i have never played with a efi car and i am finding it a bit
daunting and dont know were/how to start with sorting the loom/whatever tricky bits need to be sorted.

so where do i start and what do i do?

It's not really too hard Shep. My advice would be to label all the plugs you disconnect when you take the engine out of the vit then pull the wiring harness and ECU out then reconnect the plugs to the engine outside the vehicle.

A majority of the sensors on the engine will be wired into a plug under the intake manifold thus you do not need to touch these. Your goal is to trace all engine associated wires from the the ECU (including the MAF, O2 sensor, Dizzy, coil, VSS etc) as well ECU power, ignition and grounds then remove the excess wiring from the loom.

There are a few wiring diagrams on suzukiinfo which show you the ECU plug, wiring colors and where they should go that will help out quite a bit

Righteo:

VSS: Vehicle speed sensor which sends pulses from the back of the dash speedo cluster to the ECU for speed reference
MAF: Mass air flow meter is mounted on the airbox (round black plastic thing that connects to the first rubber hose on the intake piping), measures the airflow into the engine. Should have either 3 or 5 wires depending on if its a late or early model motor. What year is this vit?
O2 sensor: Its mounted in the exhaust manifold and measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gas. May have either 1,2,3 or 4 wires coming out of it. How many does yours have?

Thats fair enough. But it may turn out to be more of a hinderance to others than help. In Suzuki's infinate wisdom, they saw fit to change the wiring several times throughout the years, so what works for your G16B may not work for others.

To try and narrow it down, how many wires go to your AFM (air flow meter), and how many to your distributor?

I just finished an installation of this model engine (5 pin AFM) into my sierra. I'll be doing a lengthy write up on how to do it in the next two weeks. hopefully that will help you out

my nitrous kit will be here this week and i would like to drive it as soon as possible.



realty is that i have a lot of elcho rust to repair so will be at least a month oh and ball wont make me
the jack shaft i need so that will hold me up as well

I'm going to suggest something left field.

Shep, as you have a WHOLE donor vitara, why to swap the whole vitara loom, along with the steering column, into the sierra? I did this with my car, or a few reasons.

1) I had a 1.0 litre - glass fuses/dicky connections etc
2) The auto loom is much harder to work with than a manual. The TCC is on the LHS of the column and the ECU on the RHS, and the loom turns into one big mess over the top of the column. There's no equivalent of the "engine loom" once you add in the TCC.
3) I wanted the better column, column stalks etc.

It's not very hard to strip power mirrors, windows etc out of the vitara loom. It's much harder to try and lift the TCC and ECU out of the auto vitara loom and not stuff it up.

Have a look at my build thread for some pointers there.

whats a TTC? the vit is a 91 model.

makes a lot of sense to swap in the steering column as mine is suffering the effects of dry powder fire extinguisher.

I don't consider myself to be a sparky. Infact I HATE wiring. I find it teadious, and my grasp of most thing electrical is poor, at best.

But I've had no trouble stripping the junk from an auto loom. It is exactly the same proceedure as a manual loom, only there are more wires and termination points. 4 hours should have an auto loom shed of un-needed wires/ plugs and ready for a test run.

I've never seen a TCC in a vit. Only TCM's on the 4speeds.

TCC (transmisison control computer?) TCM Transmission control module I was referring to the same thing. - my bad.

I guess my point was that there are other good reasons to replace the column and whole loom with a "fresh" loom from the donor rather than stripping a whole lot of stuff out of both looms. I'm sure sheps sierra loom has seen better days - I know my 1.0 loom had.

I've done it both ways, although not with a 4speed auto, but didn't see the point in gutting a sierra loom and gutting a vitara loom and splicing them together, when everything I needed could be lifted straight out of the vitara and into the sierra, and I gained a tilt column, intermittent wipers and a four speed blower fan in the process. I had zero troubleshooting too - the first time I went for the key it started and everything worked.
