Hey guys,

Just trying to solve a small prob with my vitara. Its on a lean as if the back suspension is sagging on one side. Looking at the rear of the car it leans to the right (driver side low and NO.... I'm not a fat bastard). The suspension is less than 12 months old (Calmini 3" Kit) and the car doesn't do many km's loaded with weight. I've had the springs etc out before when I was rust proofing under my car and I just wanted to know if the Calmini springs had a particular left spring/right spring arrangement to account for camber in the roads as some do? Anyone know? If they do it may simply be a case of swapping them around.

Take the spare off the tail gate and see if it makes the lean go away.

Mine leans to the right, but when I take the spare off it doesn't lean at all. I have the full Calmini suspension as well, I can only guess its due to the softer spring rates. Do you get the car offroad much? As in fully flexing it out, 3 wheeling and almost tipping it over? I noticed with mine after a good workout it goes away but comes back again when I putt it around town... Maybe I'm on drugs though.

Most manuafacturers allow for drivers side sag, so make one side slightly more arched.

There are no left's & right's, how bad is the lean? Try swapping the coils over left to right, if that doesn't work you could fab up a slim spacer for it. If it's around 10mm you could chop up one of your mum's teflon chopping boards as a spacer..... just hide all the left over bits & it will be the perfect crime.

my mate had the same problem with his calmini springs in his sierra. Apparently that brand are designed for LHD vehicles and the driverside spring was slightly different. he swapped sides and fixed it.
Not sure about vitaras though

Thanks for the replies. When I have my diffs apart in the near future I'll rip the springs out and swap them for the hell of it. Can't hurt I suppose. Lean isn't a great deal, maybe 10-15 mm overall. But noticeable. The problem is you are always questioning it as sometimes it looks fine and you end up thinking things like "have I parked on flat ground or a hill? Is a wheel in a dip? Am I on a slope this time and that makes it look ok and there is actually a sag? etc etc...."

I'll pay attention next time the spare is off, as suggested. Its off fairly regularly as I make sure I wash behind there after every beach run.

Atari... i'm not keen to try my luck with the cutting board idea. I once stole a plastic cup from mums cupboard, cut it up and used it as an adaptor for a pod filter on a previous car I had. The shit I copped for that.....never again. Even if it cost me $1000 dollars to by a cutting board to masacre instead, it would be worth it!
