I have a SWB Vitara and Ive purchases a calmini 3" suspension lift for it (haven't put it in), and Im thinking about getting 2" body lift
Im well aware that none of this is legal in NSW but i was wondering for those who have done simalar mods in NSW , if you have had any issues with the ploice/ insurance.
Im currently living in Wa and when it comes to 4wds on the roads anything goes, there are some awesome setups around, but please let me know your experinces on NSW roads.

Also apart from being able to fit 31" tyres under the car does a body lift give any other benifits for 4 wheel driving??

Cheers

there is no benefits from the body lift apart from being able to fit bigger tyres, but it is legal in nsw it just needs to be approved and i believe the suspension lift is also legal. Not to sure about 31's i think it might only be 30's in nsw as a max tire size

Whilst NSW require engineering for everything they are also one of the easier states to get things approved. Both those mods can be approved with little drama

The door sills being higher off the ground is an advantage.

Water crossings can be 50mm deeper without wet feet :)

Plenty of vits in nsw with 31 3in lift and 3in body all legal
Now that there changed all the rules it might be a different story

Im running around on exactly what you describe, 3'' calmini lift and 2 inch body lift running 31's on a very neg offset rim... haven't had any trouble from the coppers yet. and my rig is not engineered...

was once stopped at a RBT and asked if my 4wd was legal and had a good yarn about how even though i had shit all tread left on my Baja claws that they were still great in the mud...

not sure where all the hype about shitty highway cops in nsw comes from, unless your speeding, talking on your phone, drunk driving no seatbelt... or drive something that sits on the ground... they really are alright :)

Sweet thanks Guy's
I checked the RTA website, and they have a bit of info on mods and a link to a list of engeers that you can use to get your mods certified by. They are listed by location so it seems like it may be a pretty strait forward process.

x2

Although I did get a nice defect notice just after christmas. As it turned out there was a blitz on, technically anything above 2" lift and larger than 2" tyres needs to be certified, especially if you are replacing standard control arms. But otherwise I've never had any issues besides 2 cops giving me compliments on seperate occasions during RBT's.

You have to get it rectified by either returning it to standard, or having it engineered. Then take it an approved workshop for them to say, yep that's ok.
