OK I have a serious oil leak problem in my 89 1.6 Vitara. It had been leaking ever since I got it a couple of years ago but progressively getting worse. A month or so back I finally bit the bullet and pulled the timing belt cover and lower pulley off and replaced the crank seal, there I said to myself rubbing my hands on an oily rag, That oughta fix it. Now it seems it is leaking worse than ever, its even got to a point where I can't have the windows down on a long trip as the oil smoke from oil landing on the extractors is coming in the windows. This can't be good and can only lead to a meltdown. Now, I realise the crank could and most likely is worn where the old seal was running but even so I can't figure out why it is loosing so much oil. My question is do you all think the problem is oil leaking past the crank seal or is there something else at the front of the engine where it could be coming from??, I did note there was an alloy housing below the crank and the gasket on it looked a bit iffy. I did check the sump bolts but they all seem to be tight and from research I gather the sump is sealed with a silicone sealer so I don't think that is the problem.
Cheers and thanks in advance

Cam seal or oil pump seal... Possibly head gasket, there are oil galleries running up the front of the block to the head, may be damaged on the outer edge. But this would be pretty clear if you had the timing belt cover off...

Thanks guys for the input. I still don't know where the oil is coming from but my best guess would be the crank seal. Maybe the parts guy sold me the wrong size seal, or maybe the crank is worn where the seal runs, dunno but I gotta try something. Can anyone tell me what size the crank seal is, and also what size speedi sleeve would I need to go over the crank.
Cheers
(Just looked up the invoice where I bought the crank seal, doesn't have a size but part number is BH1941E)
