Look at a MSD full ignition module, lots made with advance and retard for blown motors.

Suzuki never intended any of the G series engines to be boosted. G16a's crack blocks commonly. G16B's crack heads.. This is standard.. Adding boost will accellerate their demise.
A few people here run up to 5psi but all the work for such little boost seems a waste to me. Check 00ZUK's build thread... He spent a SHITLOAD of $$$ and time to get his boosted.
I reckon if you really want boost, start with an engine designed for it like EG: a 4AGZE.... A lot more work to make it fit but get the install right and you'll have a powerful, reliable setup.

Mate, read between the lines, most everything said here was sensible, albit written in a light hearted, mostly, nonsensical way
The read tells me that the G series is not a good engine to boost, its too weak, IF you boost, only go for 0.5 bar or less, and that it is a lot of work to do, for little reward.
Reads to me, the G series is know for a weak upper, and bottom end.
I think the folks are trying to say, is, what you wish is fraught with danger, and that there are far better options out here, with greater reward and reliability, and easier.

Just go for it. If you set it up properly with low boost you will get good results. If you have all the gear then a turbo conversion would be easier than an engine conversion. Tuning would be the hard part of it all.
Just go for it. There is a vit getting around Canberra that is daily driven and turboed.

This should be a sticky this post. It should be pmed to people when they register. Unfortunatly we are not the best people to ask about turbo upgrades. we are all mega tight arses ( hence suzuki owners) so we dont see dropping $4-5K on a turbo upgrade as a good option. Sure you can get a cheap turbo and slap up a manifold and blow it threw your carb and it might go "PPPPPTCHOOOO" when you back off but it will be shit. Really it will. What are you trying to acheive????? 1:- I want a turbo. Try http://www.redlinegti.com/ as they have people there who have done the same thing to swifts ( same engine) and can help you much better in this regard than we can. 2:- I found a turbo and want my car to go PTCHOOOOOOO!!!!! Fuck off to boostloosing where you belong dickwad 3:- I find my Vitara is lacking in power and would like some helpful advice on how to make it a Good allround vehicle for offroading, and a very capable daily driver. This is easy give us more info on what you want your car to achieve and we can help you with our many years of tried and failed and tried and tested ideas that work and can probably even help you find them too. 4:- I want more power cause power is awesome and I want to do some skids down at maccas and show of to Beth cause she is hot!!!!! Big brother rulz. See answer 2 Hope this helps. Please note I am a Sarcastic cunt so if I didnt put in answer 2 and 4 people here would think I am ill and get worried about me.

TZAR actually brings a good point somewhere in all this crap. You could prob buy a running already turbo GTi swift for under 5g. Someone has done all the hard work for you. Change the turbo manifold to suit your application then drive it. Part the rest of the car out and get some good $ back and you could pull this off on the cheap and have a tunable more reliable setup. The GTi motors are getting boosted all the time with good results $3200 for whole boosted GTi http://www.redlinegti.com/forum/viewtop ... 13&t=43153Edit again.......forgot you had a Vitara. Maybe look at LPG + turbo. Might be easier to tune and setup

0.5bar boost is enough for a noticable increase in torque and power with minimal driveability sacrifice. Seriously, you dont need big boost.
At 0.5 bar your 1.6l engine becomes effectively a 2.4L while on boost. Would you like a 2.4L in your car? With the economy of a 1.6L? I thought so.
Please turn on your bullshit detector before reading below.................
Now as for retarding on boost. Is your dissy advanced using vacuum? Could you take your vacuum advance from behind the turbo, or better yet get a second line from behind the turbo and figure a way to use the vacuum advance gagetry to remove some advance when boosting? Might be some pneumatic trickery you can play with. 2 lines to a tee, then to your dizzy. Use restricters to tune
I have never played with turbos on a carby so please... grains of salt , just an idea

want33s wrote: Suzuki never intended any of the G series engines to be boosted. lJust to be a smart arse there is the G10T which is a turbo'd factory 1L, i believe factory boost was 5-8psi and that makes nearly double the torque of a carb g10 and 30% more power at 1500rpm lower than the NA 1l. wiki wrote: This engine delivered 73 hp (54 kW) at 4500 rpm and 115 lb·ft (156 N·m) at 3500 rpm Where the 1l 3 cylinder differs from the 1.3l and 1.6 4 cylinder cousins is that the smaller/shorter crank makes it proportionally stronger bottom end (it also uses the bigger rods with 19mm pins like the gti instead of the 17mm stock g10/g13 ones) Always thought the G10t would be a sweet little motor to run in a sj413. Fuel economy would probably improve considerably over a carby 1.3 and you would have 50% more torque in an engine lighter than a 16v 1.3 or 1.6
