Hi there guys and gals
New to the site and have learnt a bit reading through, ok why I'm here I have just been given a 2001 jimny soft top,
Under 130000 on it hardly been off road, the head is blown. I worked this out while trying to diagnose the problem for my mate. Turned her over an you all know the sound... Doesn't crank right. Went to the radiator empty my mate said yeh he been topping it up from time to time, so I fill it up and fill some more. Turn it over and whoosh reverse water fall out the radiator top, compression into the cooling system like massive failure.
The head had been fixed about a year ago or more. I was told was new head put on it, some one had put truck coolant into it, so I guess corrosion on the aluminum.
I check the oil and it's normal so it's not running into the block, or it blue and just pushed it all out the top. I managed to start it at first sounded lime running on 2 cylinders,
So my mate said I can have it.

I'm in nsw he is in Brisbane, so I'm planning on flying up and fixing it there and driving back,
It looks fairly simple, next question is do I need any special tools to remove the head, as my tools up there are basic,
And the torque settings for the head bolts,
Anything else they may have to be weary of? I'm hoping the head isn't cracked, worst case a light skim if it's warped,
I have vrs kit on order, and any other help would be awesome, it's soft top it has the g13bb engine as these were made else where to the hard tops,
Kind regards Pete

Rip the 13bb throw it away and whack a 1.6 in it.there are many highly detailed threads on this forum on how to do it with pics! Much better engine, more power, fits straight in!

Mate I would price how much it will be to transport it via truck/rail. I had a falcon sent up from albury a while back and it was about $500 from memory. At least then you won't be down there going oh shit I didn't bring or worse not doing it correctly and having it break down on the trip home.

I think you'll find it's lots of small cracks in the head. If it's been overheated the head is frucked. the alloy goes soft.. a new casting with the cam and tappets and valves transferred over is $715.00 plus gaskets.
BTW. second hand heads are scarce and once you crack test it could be stuffed. a lot of mucking around.

With what you spend on plane tickets and petrol if you made the trip.
You could possibly get it hauled to you or close to you.
