you will have to measure them yourself as no 2 set ups are the same. remove the shocks, cycle the suspension & take measurements then try to find a suitable shock to suit.

You'll probably need shock hoops to get a shock long enough to make use of the extra droop.

hence why drop shackles bring more problems than what they're worth.

SO HOW THE F$%#K ARE WE SUPPOSED TO TELL YOU SHAT F$*^&*%*ING SHOCKS TO BUY

Sorry, phew, that feels better.

kenny, you've asked a question that's impossible to answer. As you have shock hoops, flex the car up, measure the total travel between the axles and the bumpstops, and buy a shock with the right amount of [b]travel[/b}

Or you could sell the retarded drop shackles to someone gullible and give up them as a bad joke before you spend heaps of time and money building the rest of the car to work with them and then realising they are doing nothing to improve your car in any way.

Drop shackles are a terrible idea.

I think a set of realy light coil helpers and a rear suck down winch would make them work

Them's fighting words  I actually tend to think I'm pretty open to different ideas and have built some pretty intentional stuff, but I try to limit the amount of hypothesizing and bench racing on here Most people who know me think I'm far from narrow minded, but a bad idea is a bad idea.

However, I am in a club, and I have built lots of cars. I haven't owned or built a car with drop shackles, but I have built cars with 3/4 elliptic (which is similar but superior to whacky shackles) and a number of club members have run drop shackles. Nobody runs them now, and that's through their negative experiences, not through me saying they are a bad idea.

If the "terrain" is a ramp or posing on a rock, they are awesome. Otherwise they are spooky and unpredictable when the car is weight transferring or under power, just like loose coils/excessively long shocks. In short, on balance, they make a car less capable because they make it less trustworthy when the car is on a big angle and/or under power.

If you never, ever throttle an obstacle, never get the car on a big spooky angle where they unload, and build the whole suspension around them, they mighty be ok. But that's nothing like the real world. Sooner or later they'll let you down. so saying "in some situations and terrains" they work, (see above- ramps and posing) it's also true that in some situations they don't- that being real world obstacles.

That's purely from my experience though.

You'll get there. Sooner or later the car will unload and flop. You'll brick it and they'll go in the bin. Seen it so many times.

From seeing them in action I wouldn't want any.

But..
Flex it up, get your closed and open measurements, find a shock to suit, make it fit, drive it and make your own mind up.

Been keeping my mouth shut for awhile, but some of you guys seriously need to learn how to just answer a simple question and move on. If he wanted to know your opinion on drop shackles he would of asked for it.

I answered the question, as did a number of others.

However, I'm just trying to prevent the OP from doing something they will ultimately regret.

u guys need a  , as well as chill the hell out or go find a hilux forum , I have to be honest I love the concept but all the data iv collected doesn’t turn up too good to the cause, if u start looking into the missing link set up, you start getting some pretty common negative info unless the guys are rock crawling,

Quote from.
http://www.rocky-road.com/samurai-yj-conversion.html

In the past we have carried Wrangler conversion kits with all sorts of hocus pocus shackle reverse and Missing Links, we stopped carrying them because of safety issues. While the perception might be for greater flex with these systems, the fact is that any articulation gains are next to nothing, but the trade-off in stability for highway driving is huge. We created the whole Missing Link phenomenon in 1995 before any other shop had seen anything of the sort. With more years of experience on the dual shackle system than any other offroad company on the planet, we determined that using Missing Links with the softness, length, and flex of the Wrangler springs was dangerous on the highway or even on the trail at speeds over 30mph. Not a risk we would put our family in, or yours. As a result, we do not recommend nor sell Missing Links or shackle reversals with Wrangler springs. For the safety of our customers, we have eliminated these systems for a true high articulation system, safe, and without all the foo-foo. Your life is not worth an extra inch of flex from a Missing Link shackle, avoid them with the Wrangler springs at all cost.

This is one of the negative data incidents I’m talking about

I don’t think the fact that it’s regarding the use of yj jeep springs as being important towards the topic unless u guys can think of a reason I’m interested to hear others opinions, just stop the slinging match or sell Ur zook and jump of the closest object that is at a decent height regarded for probable death.

WTF did all that mean Keensy?

Seriously.

The quote from Rocky Road slamming their own idea makes perfect sense.

I have no idea what you are trying to say though.
