A guy in N.Z. built a winch challenge Jimny with an M13A running NOS, got a magazine with an article about the NOS setup I could get a pic of it if you want?

I looked at a 50hp shot more than that and you'd want engine work in the opinion of NOS. You need a wet setup or the car will lean out. I was looking at using a 3000rpm rpm switch to arm it and a wot switch to engage the spray. You don't want to hose an engine under 3k- the loading at tdc is too much.
Bear in mind that with 60% more power an an equal increase in torque, optimal gearing is very different when on spray. I haven't looked at it since I've gone G16 because low range would be too low to use it- I'd be all over the limiter in low range 4th, but I couldn't pull high range until I was on spray.
Something to bear in mind.
It's a much better idea than a turbo conversion IMHO, because the engine isn't under increased load all the time, only for very short periods where needed.
Steve. Quick q for you, I'll state now that I have next to no knowledge of nitrous use in anything, but from a mechanical mind; Doesn't the use of nitrous under load effectively alter the burn duration, therefore needing ignition timing retarding? I can see the use of it being advantageous, especially in hill climb scenarios, but for reliability, how do you control that with stock engine management or dizzy timing? would the pinging in short bursts (say on a hillclimb) not be that bad? As I say, I've had no experience with it, I'd just of assumed it's the same principal to turbo/super charging an engine, the timing needs to be retarded to cope with the added compression ratio increase with positive displacement? Cheers, Simon.

The kit I bought squrts in extra fuel as well and they specifically state that the ignition must be standerd.

Cheers, Simon. X2 I looked into a 150 shot of nos on a 400hp injected 304 back in the day and basically it was a great idea on a drag strip but vertually useless anywhere else because your losing power through retarding the timing when the nos isnt on n your wasting gas running around with it armed all the time cause you have to keep purging the liquified gas out of the system. maybe a small shot of 35 hp may not require so much timing ect? i know ppl with big power aspirated engines n the 250 hp direct port injection nos is only there for the track n a waste of time anywhere else. and when my mate felt that 450 rwkw from his COME racing 383 wasnt enough the nitros got dumped in the back of the shed n on went the blower. nos is appealing cause its cheap and can be a large power gain but when you look past that its pretty shit. im certaily no expert but thats the conclusion i came to with my research and dealings with it

I think you're missing the point a bit comparing why a V8 street/strip car owner would want nitrous compared to why I might want nitrous. (And I'm not saying I do, just why I might consider it)
According to NOS, a 50hp shot of wet nitrous on an otherwise stock engine won't be harmful and won't require other modifications, other than ensuring the fuel pump can deliver the requirements of the engine+the wet nozzle.
I've had a few occasions where it wasn't possible to hold the gear I wanted to generate wheel speed after, say, a long steep, wet climb. I needed a few seconds of, lets say, a 20% increase in torque to hold the required gear.
A 50hp shot will give me more than that for $750 + fills
I can't achieve that any other way for less money or less hassle.
I'll just confirm, for me, it's for a very specific application - where I want maximum wheel speed for a very short period. Having said that I've been satisfied with the torque of my G16B to date and don't think I need it. Lots of people have built cars from the ground up in order to have 150hp in a sierra to achieve what nitrous can deliver far more easily. I'll also add that my gearbox, and the rest of my car should be up to 150hp under the circumstances where I'd use it (purely in low traction conditions)
So yes, I agree that nitrous is virtually useless everywhere except when the car won't pull 4th low and 3rd low won't provide enough wheelspeed/momentum to clear the obstacle, and 1st high is bogging.
Primarily, nitrous builds torque, and pulling tall gears requires torque.
I think there are very good reasons to investigate a small nitrous kit for muddy hills.
Steve.

I am in the process of fitting all the bits into the car and have decided that I want to remove the bottle feed tube thing and mount the bottle vertically. Anybody know where I could find a vertical bottle mount?

i had a quick google & the only ones i found are flash billet ones, might have to give it a coat of satin black so the awesome lwb doesn't reject the bling. http://archeat.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Scr ... de=BOTBRKT

can you just cut n shut the existing holder so you keep the bit that retains the bottle & just fab new brackets to mount it vertically?

Possibly, however if it doesn't work as planed I will stick it in the zombi apocalypse car I am trying to buy so would be good to keep the original mount un fucked.
