Is there a difference between where he cable fits into the transfer case from a 85 1.3 to a 96wt case?

I have had a leak since fitting a late 1.3 transfer to my lwb, out of the hole the cable goes into, have tried a heap of different O rings and a new nt cable for no improvement in the leak.

I am mostly certain that the case didn't leak when it was fitted to my 89 wt.

Any suggestions?

They should be the same shep. 84 to 96 will be the same.

In the hole? Huh? There is a collar on the end of the cable that screws on to a male thread on the speedo cable outlet. The only part of the speedo cable that goes into any hole is the cable itself into a square drive.

Besides the O-ring on the on the outside of the Speedo Driven Gear housing (thats the large bush-thing that is retained with the lock bolt), there is alo a small oil seal on the inside of the housing for the shaft of the driven gear. It might be that that's causing your oil leak?

Never seen the above mentioned cable set up on a wt Sierra, my three t-cases and another I helped rebuild were the same as Sheps.

Farrrrrk! Embarassing error. The set up I described with the collar retaining the cable on the Transfer end belongs to another model vehicle I have been working on. But the existance of the oil seal within the Speedo Driven Gear Housing is correct. Besides the obvious O-Ring on the out side, there is a seal on the inside. Tiny little bugger, but these are available from most bearing suppliers, or from Low Range Offroad (first item on the list)
