Howdy

Finally looking at fitting up some diff breathers to the zook.
What is the best/cheapest kit or setup others have used on their rig??
From what I see on Ebay, they all look identical but vary in price by a fair bit!
Does anyone know if the sierra diff breathers will accept a 1/8 BSP fitting? which appears to be the most common size supplied.

Transmission hose over the original breather, clamp, run hose up the the engine bay behind the battery, $2 fuel filter cable tie or bracket it to the firewall. total cost ~$15

What I done is pop the breather cap off, tapped out the hole to 1/8"BSP (no drilling required, the tap is a perfect fit in there). use a strong manget on the side of the tap and most of the filings will stick to the tap and not fall into the diff, then drain and flush the diff when your done to remove any filings that did get in there.

you can then use a brass barbed hosetail and attach any size hose you want. 1/4" is the best for it. You could also use nylon airline (like airlocker hose) and pushfit fittings, looks very neat when done.

for the other end of the breather I used an airline silencer, its a fitting with a honeycomb type of filter on it.

All Done was about as uncomplicated as you can get really. Purchased the cheapest generic twin diff breather kit from ebay ($40 delivered for everything you need - with 1/8BSP 'push-in' fittings) popped cap off, tapped the hole with 1/8BSP thread, ran all the air hose up to engine bay, mounted on a neat little ally bracket with small brass filters. Looks neat as, totally worth the $40 for the simplicity and neat finish. Happy as a pig in s*#t!

i hope you cleaned the swarf out of your diff from tapping it.

but otherwise good stuff

loading up your tap with grease also stops the swarf getting in the diff.

Hmmm maybe I need to do a decent job? I just ripped the spring loaded cap off the diffs and shoved compressed air hose over the barbs and hose clamped, but I find they kink and split all to often! Have to repair them after every couple good weekends!
