As the topic says, need a quick bit of feedback from those in the know as to the best size exhaust for a H27A?

Quoted $850 for non mandrel, 2 1/4 steel. Seems a bit high $ wise....

i ran 2 1/4" press bend mild steel on my j20a, was probably over kill but with it not being mandrel bent the section over the diff would have been around 2"

is that new cat & muffler included?

New muffler and hi flow cat included. I'm wondering if 2 1/4 is enough or maybe I should go 2 1/2?

The car is still drive able now as they've hooked it up to my old exhaust so I can take it and shop around. I've only ever had one cat back system fitted to an old car of mine so I'm not really fluent in all things exhaust....

not sure on that one... maybe have a chat to a few different places & see what they recommend regarding size.

also if you are going to body lift it, you will have a lot more room to tuck the pipe/muffler well above the chassis rail.

Because its a SWB, the exhaust length wont be very long, i would go with 2.25in, as 2.5in may be to big, for such a short run... i had just 2in on my GV with H25A to start with, but it felt to restricted, even though it was all high flow, but i got 2.25in put in recently, with hiflo cat and muffler, works awesome now !

all depends how big your tubo is 3" can be even too restrictive on bigger hp setups

in relation to the op 2.5" i think would suit a 2.7L better

I got a 2 1/4 with new cat and muffler for 450 so yes your being ripped. Sounds mint though.

Try Mettams Mufflers in Morley mate. I got a 2.25 inch with new muffler & hi flow cat on the old SV for ~$500. I'll be going there again for to get the GV done as soon as I've got it running. Think I'll be going 2.5" press bent this time round.

Thanks for the lead Moses. I'll keep them in mind. Was the SV system mandrel or press? I remember reading in your build that you thought it made a huge difference, bringing back a useable 5th gear.

SV system was press bent as well mate. They are a couple of hundred metres from the Galleria so easy to waste an hour or two while you wait. I'd called quite a few exhaust shops north of the river prior to going to them and most were up in the $800 - $1200 range.

I've been recommended him before too by my neighbour. When I was looking into getting and exhaust for the 4 banger he quoted $480 for extractors, $280 for a 2" system in mild or $450 in stainless. Thought that was very reasonable.

mate, since the car is in midland go around the corner to 'midland exhaust center' ( http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/midlan ... sting.html ) and get a quote from him, its the shop suzistore use. i got a quote from him for a 2" cat back system with a high flow cat and muffler for $450. Went to mettams mufflers in morley and they wanted $500 (got a really dodgy impression).

I happen to park next to an stock XL7 today, so i compared exhaust sizes, the XL7 was exactly the same size as mine, 2.25in...

The price of $850 in my original quote came from Midland Exhaust Centre. Thats why I've told Suzistore not to do it there and I'll shop around. Getting a quite from Joes exhaust man today in Port Kennedy.

He is only a one man show (that's why is cheaper cause he has no wages to pay out) so if he has no work in he leaves at about four

i got a extractors and two and a quarter inch press bent system on my j20a and its perfect, loads more torque around the 2000-4000rpm range
i reckon 2.25 mandrel bent system or 2.5 press bent would be spot on

System works well. I did however have to go back and fit a hot dog (resonator) in the system as well because it was very loud (near on small v8 supercar loud, at least it seemed to be to my poor bleeding ears in the cabin) The resonator has smoothed the tone and made it more bearable at highway speeds. Torque, engine breathing etc all spot on.
