How did you get the pump to push more fuel through?

Ah OK. I'm wondering if mine might be faulty. I forgot to mention that if I leave the motor for a while it takes agers to start like the pump has to prime the line everytime.

Well I had a pressure guage on my line and the return line off I could start the pumps watch the guage go up with nothing out the return then once it pressurized (quickly) fuel would pump out of the return line.
When I saw your post for the first time I couldn't believe that u wrote what you did, I was literally going to write the same thing so I would definitely look at the pump I would bet my left nutt that will be your problem

the pump primes for the required amount of time. Its the fact that I have to turn it over for way to long before it starts.
Plugs are black.

That process works but it usually end up time consuming and costly if you keep throwing parts at it until its solved. All I was trying to say was to OP did list an issue with the fuel and clearly that is a problem. So in logical sense wouldn't you solve this problem first before jumping to other possibilities? Matty the regulator can seize if it was left dry for a while. Just for clarification can you post a pic of your fuel rail, inlet, reg and return? It might also run a fuel pulse accumulator on the other side of the rail to the reg which could be mistaken as being the reg. Dan

not when you have spares mate. as he obviously did. also its a whole lot harder to diagnose over the internet mate! i have also run my gti with a fully blocked off FPR and it ran clear!! so depends on the fuel pump on that one mate!

Jr: I'll post a pic of it tomorrow as its not at my house. I brought a new 2nd hand fuel rail and fuel pressure reg, installed it today and I noticed that it did run a little better and I was getting more fuel coming out of the return. But its still stuttering when the throttle is pressed and its still stalling out after a short time. I've ordered a new pump Also.

Cool!
So those 3 pipes on the left in order are inlet, regulator vacuum reference and return.

OK. I think its all sorted. Looks like my original pump and the fuel reg died at the same time. With the new pump its running much better.
Thanks for everyone's input!
