hey guys, i have been thinking about putting a webbie on my 1.3l 1992 soft top sierra, and i was just wondering your opinion on them? and also what do they improve?

Weber replaces the whole factory carb, they are fine for use on road and will probably give you a bit more power out of the little 1.3, also supposed to be very easy to tune. However they do not suit off-road use as the fuel bowl is vented into the intake which causes them to flood when on too much of an angle. The correct way round they will flood going up hill, some will turn them around and they will flood going down hill, you can modify them but i still don't think they would be as good a carb designed for off road use

Are you chasing more power? Is your factory carb in good condition? I rebuilt mine and it goes a lot better and isn't too hard, you can also run premium with the timing slightly advanced too. I wouldn't spend much money on trying to get much power out of a 1.3 its better spent towards a 1.6 conversion. It is hard to get more torque out of a small capacity engine.

so in other words a weber is pointless offroad?. and yes i am chasing more power outta the 1.3l, i use the zook for getting to and from work, and also weekend 4wd trips, but since driving along the motorway every day to and from work been noticing the lack of power and torque, especial trying to putt along in 5th gear. i have just recently put a new 1.3l in it as my old one had seen better days and i was also wanting to kepp with the good old 1.3l. but just wondering how to get a bit more power and torque outta them with out spending a great deal off money like on a weber or reduction gears. ( i run 31"x10.5"x15" muddies) with 2" extended shackles and lift.

If you were looking at buying a Webber carby, for pretty much the same cost you can buy reduction gears wich will return the ratio to about standard so you can use 5th gear comfortably and obviously make it much better offroad.

theres your problem, a set of gears is around the $500 + $65ish shipping from LROR, if your transfer is in good condition it is possible to reuse the bearings inside it. By the time you fit a weber and get it tuned you have probably already spent a few $$$ and the car isnt any better off road. Gears are what makes a sierra so good.

I also run 31x10.5 tyres with gears and I think it drives fine on the freeway, I found it undriveable without, being a 1.3 you are always still gonna have to change down/give it a few revs as there is minimal torque for hills, the aerodynamics of a brick dont help either

Or you could get a second hand set of stock or 215/75/15 tyres to run around on daily which would make a huge difference.
